Is the Marmont flap bag trendy or classic?

I love the look of the Marmont, so I would be happy to carry it even when it's not the It bag any longer. But yes, they are definitely trendy right now, and if they stop making them or they are less popular it could looked dated in the eyes of some. Compare it to other It bags of the past-I think of Fendi Baguette and Spy, Chanel Cambon, Dior Saddle, Chloe Paddington, Prada nylon, Marc Jacobs Stam, LV Multicolore. These bags were everywhere, knocked off like crazy, now they are old news. Some still wear theirs because they love it, but I think that is what you need to compare the Marmont to.

Great examples - thanks for putting it in perspective!

It’s a trend. Hard to say if it’ll look “dated” once it’s out of circulation. There are some designs that still look chic despite the fact they haven’t been sold in years. I’m not sure if the marmont can stand the test of time IMO
It looks a bit too busy for me

The Paddington and the Dior saddle?!?! Seriously?!?!:lol::lol:
I think that’s too harsh of a comparison! Those two bags were VERY extra... and I think the marmont is way classier than these two.
The padding on the Gucci bags isn’t too extravagant and the flap bag itself is rather on the simple side. Also the GG is laid back. It has the “antique” look, which makes it easier on the eye than a super shiny logo.
I think it wouldn’t look TOO dated, if even dated at all.
The LV multicolor is a great comparison in my opinion. It was THE ishhh back then.. and it’s still out there. And it doesn’t look too odd. If you’re a connoisseur of bags, sure, you’d know it’s from that and that collection/year.. but other than that... wear what you like!!!

I loved the Paddington, I'd probably wear it today! Dior Saddle I never cared for (except I think it was called the Gaucho type I liked) but they are sort of making a comeback now. I just think whenever we ask if something is trendy and if we'd wear it in years to come, thinking about history is very helpful.

Hi there!

I am planning to buy a crossbody bag convenient for everyday use.

I have been looking around quite a lot and even though Gucci bags have never caught my attention, I saw someone wearing it and instantly fell in love.

My only concern is whether it is trendy or not.

The bag itself is pretty non-trendy but I felt that the logo could make it look trendy?

I’m not sure. And that’s why I decided to ask for your opinion!

I want to wear this bag for a good ~5 years. Would it be a timeless piece?

It reminds me of Gucci’s take on the Chanel flap (Chanel fans, please don’t flame me for that).

For that reason, I think it is classic. Now, if you ask about the marmont belt with the double GG, I think those are super trendy and I have two of them myself.

I think it's trendy, which has held me back from purchasing any bags other than the Disco. It doesn't keep me away from the shoes, though! It just depends...some people enjoy trendier bags, some more classic. Buy what you like!

I see the opposite effect therefore def view this bag as trendy.

Im seeing in a few years people will say "oh yeah remember all the designers were making there bags with the chain to look like CHANEL! LOL, im just saying .

The bag is only a classic for Chanel, the rest are imitators. Would be the same as if Chanel came out with a cc canvas bag. I wouldnt call it a classic because gucci has one as its classic. I would prob hate or love it and may or may not compare it to the gg classic canvas.

I had the same question but decided to get the super mini in dusty pink/nude/taupe. It is just so cute and the color is very pretty and neutral lol Any flap style bag is very classic looking to me. The antique/vintage GG logo definitely helps too. I think it will stay in trend for a while. I believe it's been at least 2 years now since it was first released (correct me if I'm wrong).

My real concern is the quality of the bag. The leather looks quite delicate to me. I've seen many threads regarding the leather issues even before using it. Luckily, my bag arrived in perfect condition. I'm usually very careful with all my bags so I hope this one will last for a while

Trendy the silhouette is really Chanel’s. Although I think the bag is cute I haven’t purchased it because I have flap bags from Chanel that I’d always pick over marmont. Second I love that Gucci is so “now” and I would like to wait it out to see if this is for good or fleeting before splurging on any big items. I love their sneakers and belts though!
