Is The Essential Trunk Worth It?

I've been eyeing the essential trunk since it came out but I never pulled the trigger because the first version felt more like a wristlet and seems like I had to put quite a bit of effort to turn it into a crossbody "bag"... however this piece has never left my mind and most recently i found out that a new version came out with a longer chain so now I can wear it cross body. But the price has increased by quite a bit. What are your thoughts on the essential trunk? Do you think it's worth it? Any thoughts and opinions are welcomed. Thank you! :)

It’s cute, but for me totally impractical so I wouldn’t spend the money. I also found the petite Malle impractical for my lifestyle. However, found the trunk clutch perfect for me and bought two.

I got the first version shortly after it was released. It's a beloved piece of my collection, but being worth it is subjective. Would I have paid the current price when I bought it? Probably, but there weren't as many alternatives as there now, such as the Trunk Clutch, Trunk Multicartes, and mini Boite Chapeau. Do any of these pique your interest or do you still find yourself wanting the Essential Trunk? If it still holds your interest, given how price increases go, it's never going to be cheaper than it is now. If not, wait until you find something you don't think twice about buying.

It’s completely not worth it for me because any accessory I plan on wearing alone (and not as a catch all or card case) has to fit a phone. This doesn’t. And for $400 CAD more I can buy the much larger but still cute Vertical Trunk Pochette. This piece is $2,200 CAD...the detailing is beautiful indeed but for that price I can get a more functional (for me) bag.

Thanks everyone for your input. For me the phone thing isn't an issue because I always hold my phone anyways though I do understand why that would be important. After some consideration, I feel like I still can't stop thinking about the piece. It's weird because I'm actually more of a Hermes girl and I haven't really been up to date with what LV is doing these days though I was aware of the recent price increase. There's something about the essential trunk that I'm so drawn to even though it's really just good for holding cards. It's too bad that there isn't a lot of information that I can find online about this piece. I guess not many people buy it due to its price and functionality? I think I'll let this idea sit for another 2 weeks and if I feel like I'm still thinking about it, I will go ahead with the purchase.

Like leechiyong I also got the very first version with the wristlet when it was released. I don’t use it as a crossbody as I feel it would be too small, but I have used it a few times as just a wristlet while holding my phone on short errands. It is an amazing piece in my collection as is a Mini version of the petite malle hence that’s one of the reasons why I bought it in the first place. Too be honest if it’s the price now, same thing but with the long crossbody strap I wouldn’t buy it bc I find that it’s not worth the price and for that amount you could buy a much more practical bag, but then again if you can’t stop thinking abt it and you will get lots of use out of it and it makes you happy and smile then why not?! Each person for themselves and what works for one person may not work for another and vice versa. We’re all different and that’s what makes us special and unique!! it is hard to find info on it as it is not that popular due to the size and functionality so you won’t find that much info on it. Only a few will have the version with the crossbody chain. Think abt it and see how you feel, and if you still are looking at it then go for it. What colour were you going to get, mono or reverse? I especially love mini bags so I had to have this in my collection! Recently, almost a year later since it was released I just got the reverse mini boite chapeau (not sure if you saw my reveal) and I love it. It took me so long because of the small size vs cost factor but mind you I had to pay an extra $200 for it lol but I did beat the price increase recently! Sometimes the heart wants want the heart wants, and if you have a need and use for it then go for it. It is not for everyone but that is fine! Can’t wait to se what you decide!! Good luck

Thanks for sharing dear. I was eyeing the mono. The reverse looks cute as well but I feel like it's less my style. I just went to look at your reveal after your post - congrats!!! How much does your boite chapeau fit? I know theres an EVEN smaller version thats comparable for the essential trunk right? I was considering the functionality side of the trunk and of course it's really just a card holder on a chain. I think though it's not practical, but the chain itself already adds a tiny bit more function to it. I am not a fan of putting my phone in my bags in the first place.. So I don't need a bag that fits a phone. Nowadays with covid 19 i only bring a card holder out with my credit cards and ids and not even really any cash at all and feel it's nice to have a little bag that I can cross body and be hands free. I also thought that maybe this LV piece will add a bit of variety to my collection.

I put my car key fob, drivers license, credit card, a little cash and a small lip gloss which all fit just fine in it. I love it and get so many compliments on it every time I wear it. Thank you! My mini boite chapeau fits a decent amount, or at least my essentials. Cards, coins, lippie, tissues and hand sanitiser. Can also fit airpods if you squeeze it in. I hold my phone or DH holds it in his pocket so that’s fine by mine. I’ve only gotten it last week so haven’t used it yet. Am looking forward to using it when things ease up. Yes, there is a smaller size, the micro boite chapeau necklace which is teeny tiny. I don’t think it would be worth buying that as it fits nothing and not worth it. If you don’t usually like putting your phone in a bag and that’s not essential for you, then definitely the essentials trunk will work for you! The essential trunk is definitely a gorgeous collectors item, and a really pretty piece to have and use. I love mine. If all you want to carry is your cards, cash and a lippie, then it’s perfect. You will love it then. Good luck, and I hope you get it if it makes your heart sing and brings a smile to your face. Mono is gorgeous, especially with the black trim.
