Is structure loss inevitable for tote bags?

Hello ladies! I’m looking for a work tote, and I prefer bags that are more classic, so I was either thinking of getting the OTG in empreinte leather in black and turtledove or getting a Chanel leather tote in a light and dark color. In my research though, I’ve seen used bag with structure loss after 1 year. I’m not sure if it’s from improper storage or if it’s just natural after a while from everyday use. There usually started to be dents towards the bottom of the bag like this.

The OTG lady said she used the bag every day for 6 months as a work bag, she did fill it up with lots of heavy things though.

Is this just inevitable for these types of bags? I realize that structure loss is brought on more quickly if you put heavy things in your bag, but since this is for work I have to be able to carry my laptop. I know Epi leather might be better to avoid structure loss but I’m just not into the silver hardware

the other tote I like is the Chanel Deauville which is unstructured so wouldn’t have this issue as bad but it’s too loud for my comfort at work, I prefer to only use it as a vacation/beach bag

I’ve never been a fan of neverfulls but the empreinte version caught my eye. Would that be better to avoid structure loss since it’s already a naturally less structured bag than the OTG and Chanel totes?

They do tend to loose structure faster if the contents are heavy. I know the jersey tote is more structured than most and also the Luco tote. It’s discontinued but you can find a great condition one on the preloaded market!

never heard of those but will check it out. I don’t usually do preloved but maybe

It depends on the material. Soft leather will always slouch even if its not filled to the brim. Everyday bags will definitely have wear shown, its just something you have to come to terms with. But if you rotate your bags and don’t over stuff it shouldn’t look like that in the pics.

if you plan to overstuff your bag, its time to find a bigger sized bag because that one clearly isn’t working for your lifestyle.

Maybe try the embossed calfskin Dior Book Tote. It’s beautiful! I love the subtle black on black.
I may be wrong, but I’ve never seen one lose its structure at all...

From the types of leather you stated you were interested in, the bags of that composition would tend to lose their shape faster. If you would consider a more structured canvas bag, it may be better suited to your needs. Check out the Cabas Voyage Taurillon Leather or a Sac Plat. Just a thought !

Hiya! On a slightly unrelated note, I recently purschased a preloved lamb skin timeless classic- I’m concerned about the structure as it won’t stay upright on its own (it is 11 years old), is that normal or should I be concerned? Thank you!
