I am considering a credit card that has a high fee. One of the benefits is a free Shoprunner membership. From research this seems like a program where I might benefit from free shipping in a few circumstances? is it anything else or valuable in anyway?

I have free shoprunner through my AMEX card. It was not the reason why I signed up for AMEX (only found out about it after the fact) but it definitely shouldn’t be a reason to sign up for a high fee card! It’s not that great (IMHO), many of the places that I shop at online do not offer its services. Saks used to do it and then stopped. I suspect it’s because the new third party they use to ship 2day was not delivering the items on time (based on my personal experience).
I've had AMEX card with ShopRunner for over 10 years, but I've only been able to use ShopRunner less than 15 times. I just don't shop at ShopRunner's partner sites often. ShopRunner partners are limited and the selection has only gotten smaller over the years.
ShopRunner partners I've used the service for:
Bloomingdale's
Cole Haan
Saks Fifth Ave (discontinued)
Neiman Marcus Last Call (discontinued)
American Eagle
Lord + Taylor (discontinued)
Kate Spade
OnlineShoes.com (discontinued)
Choosing a credit card for the highest value travel points or cash back are a lot more lucrative in the long run.
