Is Prada now authenticating via email?

There is an interesting thread in the Ebay section. Both parties in a disputed transaction are contending that Prada is authenticating via emailed photos. I won't be able to get to the Prada boutique by me until after the post Christmas subsides a bit. I would like to know if this is being done by Prada's VeRO/corporate, or at the boutique level. The seller is UK based if that makes a difference?
