I’m in love with malachite, and I’ve been seriously considering the Vintage Alhambra malachite earrings since I love my onyx ones so much. However, I don’t love the prices. Does anyone know why VCA jacks up the prices of the malachite pieces (compared to other stones), since other brands charge much, much less? I need to able to justify the huge price difference. Do you think malachite is worth the extra cost?

I, too, was/am in love with Malachite. For me, however, each time I buy or try a piece, it’s just underwhelming for me - I’m not sure why. For the money, I would go with something else. Just my opinion and I’m sure others will disagree because it really is gorgeous, but it’s just meh when worn. Shrug.

If you are in love with malachite and have the money to purchase it, go ahead and buy it. And no, you don't need to justify the huge price difference or if it's worth the extra cost.

I’m just going to be honest and ask you to think hard about malachite. It is a beautiful stone, but you have to make sure you look over several to find the one with the best striations. You will also have to be more careful with it than other stones. And lastly make sure that it works well with your hair color, skin tone, and wardrobe palette. I have earrings and a pendant in malachite and find them to be too delicate and didn’t think about how my opinion of them would change once I changed hair colors. They are absolutely beautiful, but in hindsight I would have probably picked a different stone. Take this with a grain of salt because I feel I will fall in love again once I change my hair to something that doesn’t clash so much or just get over the mental block of the contrast!

I agree. Also look at the different shades of Malachite (I prefer dark).
I had the same experience as you, except the opposite. Now I can wear malachite with this hair color

Malachite is my favourite stone. I own it in a 5 motif bracelet but intend to get the 3 motif earrings and 10 motif necklace.
I don’t know if it is a more expensive stone than mop or onyx. I recall a thread once where posters were comparing all the pave earrings - price versus carat count. It was interesting and the pricing wasn’t obvious. You are talking about hundreds of dollars difference, and really none of the material VCA uses is ‘worth’ the price, so just buy what you love.

Have you spoken to your SA about taking care of malachite? My understanding is that it is a delicate stone, and therefore, more expensive.

Why do you think it’s more expensive than other stones? The Vintage Alhambra earrings in malachite is $500-600 more than the onyx or MOP.
I read somewhere (it may even have been here) that the reason why it's more expensive is because the best Malachite is sourced from Congo and there are certain restrictions on how much can be mined and exported.
TBH, my malachite pendant is my 2nd favorite VCA necklace (just a smidge behind my 2018 holiday pendant). Every time I wear it, I get compliments left and right. It's just such a gorgeous green hue and it brightens up my complexion.
As with the delicate upkeep, I'm definitely more careful with it than my MOP, Onyx and Gold MOP pendants. I've washed it twice with water and dried it immediately without seeing any change in color or striations.
It's just so gorgeous and I have zero regrets.

Thanks for your feedback! I didn’t know about the sourcing. I figured it might be because the stone was prone to breakage, but now I know it’s the sourcing. Interesting.

I’m so in love with the color. I’m still thinking about it (I ended up buying a Cartier piece recently, haven’t posted yet on Instagram). My next VCA will be a pair of earrings (choices being malachite and guilloche for VA and Frivole in large).

Omg get the Guilloche. My best VCA purchase to date. It gives you so much presence and “bling” factor.. without paying the pave price. It can be dressed up or down. I have 3.5 ct diamond studs that I haven’t touched since buying the Guilloche earrings.. and they are strong! Not as delicate as malachite. But it might be tricky to find the Guilloche. It sells out fast.
