I live in the suburbs of the Bay Area and haven’t been in the City since it was shut down in 2020 during the height of Covid. I have since stayed away due to numerous incidents of robbery and Asian hate, and frankly I am terrified. I usually just shop online now, and for high end stuff, I fly out to Vegas.

I made an appointment next week to come in to VCA because my guilloche pendant is about to turn 1 year old and need to get it extended. If I wait until my next Vegas trip, it will be passed the 1 year mark and I’d have to pay.

My dilemma now is, should I proceed in using my designer bags, clothes, shoes, and jewelry? Or will this make me a target and best to just dress down? I am a SAHM and hardly go out nowadays, so when I get the chance, I like dressing up. Although, I’m so scared to walk the streets of SF attracting attention to myself. Is this just my anxiety? What would you do?

Give it a little more time.
If you have stayed away for various reasons and are going to try going back,
you need to be as relaxed as possible, so be as understated as you can.
If you are anxious, you will generate the wrong vibe.
You will soon get back to feeling confident, then dress as you would wish.

Anyone who tells you that you should be yourself, dress how you wish and be dammed any haters or robbers,
is giving you unwise advice. Of course, we don't want to let these people get the upper hand, but we also need to be mindful of how we feel.

How about taking a friend or two with you?

Downtown SF is relatively safe during the day. I assume your appointment is sometime between 10-5?? There are so many police patrolling Union Square right now. I suggest parking at Union Square Garage, its less than 1 block to VCA. Always be aware of your surroundings. I go downtown about once a week. I carry a crossbody tho. I haven't carried my birkins for awhile because I need hands free.

+100 re giving this a bit more time

i would not go anywhere where I feel this level of discomfort (unless I had no choice)
and, I would not carry any item that would contribute to my anxiety

we are all different, and your feelings are valid.

When I went to Hermes in San Fran we parked in a parking deck that is close to it. It may the the union square deck someone previously mentioned. It was very well lit. The streets had people strolling around and they did have a fair amount of police as well. If I was by myself I'd def have been very cautious just from hearing stories about San Fran lately. I was with my husband and I felt safe. I had my Kelly for an event tucked away in a tote bag. We walked around San Fran w my Kelly out and even in some other streets near goyard I felt ok. I did tie a shawl around it to make it less noticeable.

But I agree w the others - do and wear what makes you feel comfortable. Hew on the side of caution.

You could have your partner or best friend drop you off right at the door then meet you inside. Best to walk back together if you are with designer articles and bag.

Best to you!

For your own peace of mind, I would just pay to have it extended in Vegas. I think you starting a thread already worried tells me, it's worth the money for your own mental health.:flowers:

I am 77 and questioning every day if I will ever enjoy some of my possessions again. I had bag snatched from me in a restaurant and thief was at Apple store and Dick's sporting goods store with in very short time and was able to charge over $5,000 AFTER my cards reported stolen. Amex was wonderful and offered to get me an Uber home, but I was with friends who drove. I prefer not to say my city.
