Is it possible that Breuninger dept. store (from Germany) sells fake?

Hi, thanks for letting me post a new thread. I don’t know if this is the right place I could ask. I have used the search function and I didn’t find any thread mentioning Breuninger like this.

I bought a Burberry TB Bag from Breuninger.de last year, and since I didn’t get to wear it yet, after a while I feel like I don’t really need it. I tried to sell it on Vinted few days ago and today I was suddenly notified that after investigations by Vinted team, they decided that my item “doesn’t appear to be authentic” -> this is their exact words. I contacted them back (no answer yet) asking them to elaborate why they think that my item was fake, because I bought it directly from Breuninger and Breuninger is a big luxury retailer (comparable to Nordstrom in the USA, I think). I told them I would be thankful if they can show me its inauthenticity and if what they say proves to be true, I would open a dispute with Breuninger.
I checked my bag before and everything seems fine: the dust bag, tag, stamp, and also the code. The leather also feels right and there’s nothing wrong with the design or the logo, most of all I never think I’d ever suspect Breuninger.

Is there any possible way that Breuninger sold me a counterfeit item or Vinted is just a complete nonsense? Should I contact Breuninger or use an authenticator service first to see if it’s really fake? Or should I contact Burberry and ask them?

I don’t even care about selling it anymore, I’m just really mad at the thought that I might have been given a fake item.

Any opinions or suggestions would be really helpful. Thank you so much for this warm community

There can be cases where a person buys an authentic item, returns a counterfeit and then the retailer sells the counterfeit inadvertently, albeit that's extremely rare and most retailers have security return tags/rfid these days to prevent this.

It's more plausible Vinted is wrong and I would contact an authentication service (maybe authenticate4u) and/or also post it in the authentication thread.

As for contacting Burberry, in my experience for most luxury brands, they stay away from authentication. They usually say something along the lines that they guarantee the item is authentic if purchased from them, their boutiques, or one of their retail partners, but wouldn't hurt to try.

Thanks for replying! :)

Wow, there are people taking advantage of return policies like that? I really hope that wouldn't be the case with me.

I wanted to post in the authentication thread, but it seems that they don't really do authentication of Burberry bags here. I did read a lot, watched some videos and try to authenticate the bag myself and everything seems right. But I'm gonna try the professional authenticators to be sure. Thank you for recommending the authenticate4u :)

I'll just wait for Vinted's reply first, then depending on their replies I'll go to professional authenticator.

That’s the only possibility I see, that someone swapped a return, those things can happen. Or that Vinted is wrong, which is much more likely...
As you say, Breuniger is like Nordstrom, a very reputable brick & mortar department store chain in Germany. Nothing to worry about on that front.

I really hope Vinted was wrong! I forgot to mention that before listing on Vinted, I also requested quotes from Yoogi’s closet and Fashionphile. They accepted but their quote were to low so I didn’t accept. Even they approved my bag, so I really doubt Vinted.

Anyways the whole swapping the item with a fake during return sounds really scary for newbie like me, I didn’t know it before:eek: I’m gonna have to stick with buying from the boutique directly from now on.

Thanks for replying :)
