Is it just me or is 'vintage' overpriced (Luxury Promise, I'm looking at you!)

Like most people on this forum, I love Chanel. I have only 4 bags, however, with the recent price rises, I feel unable to justify buying any more - what bag is worth £7k!!.

I've therefore considered buying from the secondhand market, however, the cost for used bags (upmarketed as 'pre-loved') seems exorbitant - or is it just me??

A (many) years old, well used bag for nearly £6k - come on, that's ridiculous. Is it not?

What do you guys think?

There is a big difference between a beautiful vintage Chanel and preloved vintage or contemporary bags that have been ‘well loved’. I agree prices have gone beserk for preloved bags. I saw a red medium flap on Fashionphile last night for just under 4k that was filthy, just gross. Hard to find bags in great condition tho, do command high prices, and people pay them. Supply and demand. Especially now tyat Chanel is imposing quotas on Flaps.

excellent condition or pristine vintage is in an entirely different category imo. I purchased 2 vintage flaps a few years ago that were only around 1k under new boutique flaps (they were pristine), b/c i wanted vintage. And i don’t think i overpaid for them, they were worth every penny i paid. My bags are from the 90s, 24k plated hardware, the most luscious lambskin ever, and the quality is unbelievable. I do have 2 contemporary Chanel bags (a Reissue and WOC), and my vintage bags are my favorites. But thats just me, everyone is different. But there are folks out there who prefer vintage bags! Here is an interesting article which kind of mirrors my thoughts….

I think cristos and his buying squad on IG lives is what pushed vintage prices. Half of these sellers don’t even know the bags value and price bags way high, it creates FOMO during the lives- and ppl say sold.

I’m considering purchasing from Luxury Promise. Do they ever have any issues with authenticity?
As far as I know there haven't been any problems with authenticity however I would avoid them. Buying or selling with them is a bad idea. I had the worst experience. Don't expect any customer service, you have to chase them up for everything. A few days ago a female assistant slammed the door of the shop in my face and left me standing in the street in absolute shock. That was after I spoke to the owner that I want to bring a bag to sell. They take 35%! Which is more than major auction houses. They are an absolute joke of a company. Apparently, they don't pay the sellers on time and they have to chase them to be paid.

Prices across the board are insane now. I am kicking myself for not getting a single flap Jumbo a year or two ago, since they have jumped so much in price recently. I have a small frame, and the double flap jumbos are too heavy, but I was thinking it would be nice to have a single flap. But since it would not get a lot of use, I do not want to pay todays prices for one. So now that ship has sailed

In my mind I was thinking it would be nice to have a single flap jumbo. Haven’t even looked at prices yet. Curious the average price you have been seeing on preloved market. Maybe it’s a lost cause for me too!
