Hi everyone - hoping i can get some advice here...

i'm usually a 7.5 - sometimes i do size up in certain brands but rarely..

i tried on a pair of sandals from tods last week and they only had a 38, the sandals fit perfectly (in length and width) and with the 7.5, my foot wouldve been hanging off the back anyway. same day, i also tried on a pair of flats in 38 - i was only planning on buying one pair of shoes so i just tried them on quickly and i thought they fit ok. fast forward a week, i want them so badly but theyre now out of stock in my local store and i would have to order but they would be final sale. so my question is - is going up half a size a big difference? would an insole solve the problem if theyre a bit loose?

i keep going back and forth because i have tods shoes but theyre all 37.5 and in general i only wear 7.5. but these sandals are 38 and they fit perfect and when i quickly tried the flats on, i thought they fit ok.

please help!

+1 with @Swanky re every brand and style running differently.

I think you have to go by how they felt when you tried them on quickly. My concern is if the vamp is low, you could actually walk out of them. You could also try calling the SA and asking, if I am a 7.5 in x tods model, do you think I could take an 8 in y model. If you are a good customer, your SA may be able to do store credit or make an accommodation should the 38 not work.

i personally prefer not to size up on a flat or heel. I do sometimes size up in an espadrille, sneaker, or boot (Bc I know they will stay on my foot or wear a sock. I also might size up in a sandal or birkenstock so as to get more space around the foot.

occasionally, with respect to chanel ballet flats, I have two sizes, but I also have temperamental feet lol.

Agree with @Swanky and @880

Another thing to consider is the material of the shoe/sandal.
Stiffer materials like patent leather are less likely to stretch than say suede leather.

It's always good to keep in mind how much the material will stretch over time so that you know, as you break in the shoe/sandal, that it won't end up being too big for you as they soften and stretch.

I'm all over the places in sizing. The only brands that are consistent for me are Nike and Jimmy Choo, always a 7.5
I'm half a size up in Hermes (shoes or sandals) and a whole size up for Chloe. A 7.5 or an 8 for YSL depending on the material.

@ncch , this refers to length, but of course width and volume of the shoe also need to be considered

hi everyone - thanks for your replies!

the flat is a pointy toe patent leather so i dont think they will stretch that much.

this tods store is new-ish (opened right before pandemic) and it was the first time id ever been in there.. the SA made it clear that it would be final sale.

thanks again and i will keep you posted if i buy...

Would they possibly let you exchange it even though it’s “ final sale?” I think wearing a small insert would help if it’s a bit loose. I’m like you usually a size 7.5, but actually I wear a 38 in some brands too.

I have a pair of old boots that I love - very comfortable and get compliments on them. when I bought them I was deciding whether to get my regular size or a half size smaller. they're still in good shape but I figure they won't last forever so I might want a backup pair. I have an opportunity to buy a pair a half size larger (my normal size). but maybe they will be a bit too big? maybe I should keep looking for a pair in the same size I already own?
