Is Chanel patent durable?

I only have one patent leather Chanel handbag. It is a tote. It is ok. It is great for its purpose but not my all time favorite handbag. Now since it is not a dark color I have to worry about color transfer... but since it is yellow I don’t have to worry about the yellowing that happens over time with most patent leather coating. Overall I do like the bag but IMO with patent leather unless it is black, is too susceptible to color transfer to make it worth having more than one. I just don’t like having to baby my bags.

I'm a fan of patent because it can handle light rain and is (relatively) scratch resistant. My bag is 30+ years old (acquired secondhand) so it's got some wear—wrinkles, dents, minor corner rubbing, that kind of thing—but it's retained that watery shine and has mostly held its shape well. I'm quite happy with it (:

Hi Snow,

depends on the color. Chanel's patent leather quality is good from handling bags from friends and one bag I used to own. Mine held its shape and looked glossy when I still had it.

However with lighter colors, Chanel's patent is not invincible to discoloration and color transfer. Either get one in black or maybe just a very dark color to make caring it easier.

I have a beige patent mini from Chanel, but got it less than a year ago. It‘s hold up good so far, no colour transfer even though I mostly wear dark blue jeans or black leggings. I am careful with it though

Thanks, I think so too! I got her in late December of last year, so I've only had her for a few months. Apart from borrowing some of my mom's leather moisturizer from Coach, I haven't done much! Based on advice from other TPF-ers, I keep the bag outside of her box andsand with tissue paper when not in use. So far so good (:

I only own one patent Chanel bag which is the Mademoiselle Bag (Bowling Bag). I've had it for over 5 years now and it's still look brand new no issue at all. I don't carry it that often tho.
