Is black copper now gunmetal?

I am noticing there is a lot more gun metal than black copper on bags and accessories. I am partial to matching metal tones (charms, wallets, etc) to the hardware of my bag (coordinating leathers/colors but matching metal hardware) but am finding that Coach appears to be trending toward gunmetal. Anyone know if this is permanent? They’re close...but not really.

I know I've seen several complaints on here (and even have a bag where this is happening myself) about the black copper hardware chipping easily and revealing the brass underneath. Maybe that's why?

Black Copper is the only Coach hardware that has not withstood the elements for me. It's nice while it lasts, but I see why they would move away from it.
