Interesting read on Coach

Thanks for that link, very interesting indeed! As are the comments that follow.......seems many folks are quite upset that Coach's leather isn't "up to par" from their older leathers and that they're made in Vietnam, etc.

It's understandable that Coach had a hard time resetting from the changes in quality and aesthetic that took place in the early 2000's, but I was surprised that the Huff Po article didn't provide better stats. Coach's sales figures were down in 2014 and 2015, but report growth of 7% in 2016 which signals some success. Comments on the article are interesting too.

Yep, mostly negative. I find it disappointing when people who haven't bought Coach in years talk down about it and then go on and on about other brands. Biased, much? Lol! Coach still makes high-quality bags, even though some are not made as well as others...

Several of the comments were about Coach's more recent leathers and how they don't compare to the vintage leathers. I guess one doesn't have to actually own a newer bag to make that judgement but just go into the boutique and check them out.
The Coach of old have a very loyal following who do NOT like the newer styles and leather.....I get that.
Different strokes and all though I feel that there are many beautiful, newer Coach bags and I proudly own 3 of them at the moment.

I was in a Factory Store last week and did not like one bag. They all felt like plastic and I wasn't sure what was leather. I didn't even bother checking them out. If I am paying for a leather bag I do not want it to look and feel like a cheap piece of plastic.

Part of the issue is that most consumers don't know the difference between the outlets and the retail stores. They don't understand that the outlet items are manufactured to be lower quality in order to hit those lower price points. Also, Coach has been very hit or miss with quality in the last several years, plus the designs have been all over the map. They went through a period where they were throwing things on a wall to see what would stick. I've been a loyal coach customer for 25 years and even I can't defend much of what they've done the last several years in terms of quality or design. I do think they are hitting their stride now in terms of creative and quality, but it's going to take time. They've burned lots of bridges with loyal customers and the competition in this market is fierce. They need some time to build up their reputation again and to earn back their position as a quality designer company. I'm rooting for them to succeed, but given their past behavior, it's more like cautious optimism.
