Insured shipping US - Canada???

I am trying to arrange shipping for a $2500 item bought from an individual in the US - this is to be shipped to my sister here in Canada for Christmas. The problem is, the local post office (in a small town in Iowa) is telling the woman I purchased from that insuring an item over $500 is impossible. What? This can't be true, can it?

Can someone give me some tips on what kind of insurance is possible on a $2500 item to be shipped from the States to Canada?

Thanks!

You can ship Express mail and insure up to $5000, I think priority is $675 but it's been a while since I tried to ship one. No insurance on first class to canada..

OK, thank you, Express it is then. I don't know what 'Express' means, but I will tell my US counterpart to send it that way. Thanks, you two!

Tell her specifically 'Express Mail International', she should have no problem getting full insurance. Though it's not a cheap way to ship, it's the one that most seller's use so that they can stay protected.
