Hi guys....I was wondering if any of you had thoughts on the blatant MG "inspired" bags out there. Is it a form of flattery or disrespectful?

I will see if I can find a few pictures of inspired looks......

I find a lot of these "inspired" bags to be pretty tacky, with the big tassels and heavy hardware. To me, they don't compare to the simplicity and sleek design of MGs.

Here's one from Aritzia's house brands which I think is actually quite nice because it doesn't have any crazy hardware or tassels. The closure is a drawstring too so it's easier to adjust:

To me, I don't think it's disrespectful. A lot of bag designs we see now are really not anything new. Unless they are copying the specific parts of the design that is unique to the designer or worse, making a counterfeit version of it, I don't see a big problem with inspired bags.

I don't buy fake or "inspired" myself. I prefer more original designs from cheaper brands if I don't want to spend money on more expensive designers.
I think there's a fine line between being just inspired and a plain copy too.
Not really my thing. Over the years I've seen many bags I own I cheaper "inspired" versions which always look much tackier and usually shabby quality.

Each to their own though some people are perfectly happy to support clones that fall apart early rather than spend the extra.

It's just a bucket bag with a clean aesthetic. Louis Vuitton came out with the Noe many years before bucket bags became trendy. You could even compare the MG canvas buckets and say they're kind of inspired by the larger Noes.

My personal conspiracy theory is that MGs aesthetic is influenced by Gucci! Gucci makes the best bucket bag :p

Edited to add: sorry if that post came out as possibly a little rude. As it has been up for an hour I won't delete. However my main point is that great handbag design does tend toward a degree of interconnected with other designers, even within premier design.

Not at all rude!! It's a gorgeous bag 😍

This thread is funny. The question is who is influenced by whom. I had an Alexander McQueen bucket before I had noticed MG and when I first saw the tumbled leather bucket it reminded me a lot of my McQueen bag.

The shape is classic and beautiful but it is not unique. The only thing that is new is the lack of hardware and the interior colors of MG but they didn't reinvent the wheel.

For me there is a difference between the shape of a bag being like others (because of course this is the case, another example is totes) and an exact copy of a bag with another brand on it. Which makes it not a fake as such but "inspired". I forget which brand it is that has made a bucket with red lining and is the same as the MG bucket except for the label on the front. Those are the kinds of things I stay away from. I don't think the shape itself of any bag is unique to any brand.

I do own this but I am still very much in love with the MG bucket. They are both bucket bag but just not the same ;) Or is that my excuse of owning both?!
