I ran across a bag and thought that it reminded me so much of the Mercer clutch, that I decided to start a thread for bags that could be interpreted to be "inspired by" HH.

The current bag at issue, Kathy Van Zeeland Casual Pocket Handheld:

  4. The mercer clutch is not exactly an original idea. Something like it was around in the 50s/60s.
    Just sayn'
  5. There's a MaxxNY hobo that's an exact copy of the Havana, down to stud placement and everything. I had the red one till recently when I was finally able to sell it. Only difference is it's croco embossed, different colors, and not nearly as nice leather.
  6. The Maxx bag caused HH to file a copyright suit -.

swolf - I've seen your response by others many times concerning different brands - if we don't KNOW that the inspiration was from some previous time and perhaps HH borrowed the inspiration, then it's 'inspired by ...' to us. I wasn't alive in the 50s. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a handbag patent book of some type we could look this stuff up in ... I've got one book but it only deals with high-end bags, for the most part. I imagine it would take a hundred books, nay, a thousand, to cover all the different bag ideas there have been over the ages...

Apparently Maxx was inspired to the degree that HH took offense. LOL.
  7. indiaink, I'm glad HH did something about it! I bought it from a consignment store before I really knew about HH, and later realized what a knockoff it was...still cute and fun, but yeah. I felt bad for HH!
  8. There is just way too many vintage bags to post here to prove as example. HH, has even mentioned that they like to draw inspiration from the past and from different genres. Although, they are quite similar, I am not saying HH's exact design is a complete rip-off of anyone elses. Their bags are very unique and stand on their own; especially compared to other designers.

Here are links of few examples of past designs I mentioned:
  9. ^way cool, swolf!
  10. i was just on and i saw this! They were not selling the bag on the site but it is def. a copy of the Euc Havana!

  11. Carlie, I got this exact same bag in the green croco (surprise!) before I discovered HH. After that, I did the same and sold off most of my Maxx bags.
  12. ^^I have the red one....I wasn't sure I'd like the havana, and it seemed like a good way to test drive one for super cheap (thanks to the hot mama I got it from) I think I'd adore a smooshy havana now....
