Curious if anyone can shed insight on how Chanel categorizes their client base. For example, when a SA pulls up your profile by your phone number, what does it say next to your name/profile? How does one become a 'VIP' or whatever they call it, and what are the tiers that SAs look at as they're sizing you up, lol (if they don't know you)? With all the buying restrictions, what makes a customer a preferred clientele? Thanks in advance!

I read somewhere that there are different tiers that are based on spending. On the other hand, I read that some SAs decide to gift you just because you have a good relationship even if you bough 1 bag the whole year.

Here's one. The VIP is called camellia client

I also mentioned in a different thread that it also has to do with not only spending $ on bags but also on RTW. I have friends who work corporate for Fendi, Thom browne, ysl etc and it goes the same way. Their reasoning is that people who only buy bags , it can be one a year or one in a lifetime, or 5 in one year and not the next but those who spend $$ also on RTW has dedication to the brand. RTW cost just as much or more than bags and if they are able to spend $ on RTW usually they are also buying a ton of purses too.

IDK about the VIP tiers, but I do know chanel keeps records from many years ago and Madison ave boutique (and presumably others?) can see my info from 57th st. boutique. Somehow I find this comforting. ( Starting in 2001, I was a RTW customer back then, but I also bought bags).

How does buying RTW work. I have text SA this year about 3-4 items about RTW and they don't have them at all. Are the pieces very limited each season? I thought maybe she would have sent some pictures but there was no interest. So do SA's get more for bags?

Once when I was being checked into a Chanel hosted event I glanced over the security guard’s shoulder and saw that I had a “elite” next to my name. I am not that much of a big spender. I only buy a couple of rtw pieces a year but I have a ten year history with my boutique. Not sure if that category means anything

its based on dollar amount that you spend in a year, as well at the categories you buy. RTW and fine jewelry are important if you want to move up in tiers. Your spend has to be pretty consistent too, if you dont keep up then you can lose the status.

Thank you again!

Thank you again! You have answered a lot of my questions. I just wonder how many bags I have to buy in order be prioritized on the list. So far I have just bought bags so I am thinking in order to get the items I am interested in I need to buy more. I have used the same SA but it seems to be hit or miss on anything. They never have any stock I am interested in from dresses, hats, accessories or bags. It seems to be either there is limited stock or you need to be a VIP. Thank you for you insight.

Can i ask why you want to be on this client list/have a high status? Majority of these vip clients dont even realize they are vip and didnt seek to be high up in status. They just genuinely love the brand and continue to support. I think the trick is to not just show interest in current collections, but to let your SA know you're interested in items before they even come out. If you always ask for product when the collection launches, chances are those things are already reserved/not available. You have to be a step ahead if you want to snag the pieces you want. You dont need to be a vip to get certain handbags, but you should show your sa you are committed. if you ask for a certain item and they end up not having it and stopping your inquires/conversation there, then youre not going to get much. you have to keep the conversation going with them and build a relationship so they know to keep you in mind and know what you are looking for.

I know this thread is one year old, just wonder - is the Chanel database connected? For example, buying from SAKs Chanel/ Nordstrom Chanel can be seen in your profile besides your buys at various boutiques? I buy all over the places, and I have been getting a few small gifts from Chanel in NY where I never shopped.
