I'm in love with so much Indian/Pakistani jewelry - especially some of the gold bangles. I am always pestering people to take me to local jewelry shops and show me around - can we have a thread for some of our favorite ethnic jewelry? The ones that came to the top of my head were Indian/Pakistan/Thai styles but all are welcome! And would also love to hear buying tips, recommendations, etc :smile1:

Great thread! As a bracelet addict, I have for sure some ethnic bracelets in my collection. The first one is from Indonesia (I suppose, I bought it in Paris but the guy told me it came from Indonesia...), the second one is a Native American bracelet from the Navajo tribe. I bought in Sedona AZ, in the BEST shop of ethnic jewelry I have ever seen: http://www.garlandsjewelry.com/. Their collection is amazing, it gives you headache! Sedona worth the drive but if it is really too far, they now have an online boutique!

Nice bracelets!!

The best Asian jewelry shopping place my friend has taken me to is in Orange County. It's some place called Bolsa in Santa Ana. It's a two-story mall with the traditional Chinese roofing. Anywho, you could get the best deals there. One of the booths specializes in platinum on the second floor (i don't know the name..I think it could have said platinum something. The owner is a young pretty lady with long hair.)..sells top quality diamonds. It's all E color and VVS1 for dirt cheap. I don't know where they are from. Could be conflict diamonds for all I know. :shrugs: And they can customize jewelry too. Beautiful stuff. I've been to Chinatown in LA and this one in the OC is way better.

My aunt bought a Chopard looking pendant, like a happy diamond, in Bolsa. She gets compliments on it all the time. And all her 22k gold bangles were purchased there as well. They have some diamond cut to them so it sparkles. It's worth checking out if you ever plan to visit Orange County. You'll need to haggle to get the best deal though. Never take the first price they list it as.

Talk about Bolsa and LIttle Saigon, my sister went in there and the jewelry piece was said to be 18 K by the owner of one of the many gold shops. When she looked carefully it said 8K, she brought it to the owner's attention: The owner of the store said, he would put a 1 in front of the 8 for her! BEWARE please! She left without buying, obviously. This is an experience only, and not an accusation that all owners are like that or that any jewelry is not what it says it is!

^That's what it is...Little Saigon area. Yes, it's a hit and miss I heard. But some booths do have quality product especially that platinum selling booth. There are 200 booths in that mall I think. :smile1: Just need to dig, dig, dig and weed out the fraudulent ones.

^^ ohh love the red ring!!!
I really love Turkish jewellery. It's so beautiful and I love that they use a lot of higher carats of gold compared to everything being 10 and 14k here. Also everything is always oversized and more bling-y.
