What do you do when you see something online that you like but you aren't really sure that you truly want it or are just wanting something new? think about it for awhile and see if you get over it? buy it before someone else does? make a lower offer knowing if it's rejected you didn't really need it anyway?Guess this is where the term "retail therapy" comes from. In a way I'm better off buying in a BNM store with no returns. that way I make a decision and live with it.

Take a photo, add it the the wishlist album, visit it from time to time. It either eventually gets bought in 3-9 months or just gets deleted haha :P

So I guess I mainly wait to see if I get over it; if it’s a just a “phase” I’m going through.

If it’s the last one or someone else is interested and there’s limited stock, meh, go for it; there are always other/more things to buy

Agreeing with all the excellent advice above!

I also add whatever I'm considering to a wishlist (Gift Hero) if it's over USD 100, and I hold off on pricier items like a luxe bag for a few months while I do more research and reorg to figure out if whatever it is fits into my wardrobe/lifestyle.

Then, I close Gift Hero and do something else unrelated to retail therapy that makes me feel good like going on a quick run, reorganizing, play a game, reading, drawing, or dinner planning with a fun new recipe.

Do the things that make you feel good while you let that new pretty thing you're thinking of buying marinate.

I am horrible. If I like something or want it, I will keep looking at in online for a short period of time. Then I will come on here, search threads and end up buying it in no time. I find my justification to buy here The pandemic did me no favors either. I had a ton more time to obsess over all sorts of bags, shoes and jewelry.

I have made sure to try to use most of these items the best I can in times like this though. I am no longer saving things for “an occasion”. So somehow I may be impulsive, but because of the pandemic I have learned that if I am obsessing and buying, I am going to use it!

I make mistakes when I buy impulsively or out of boredom. Those are my what-was-I-thinking bags which I wear once or twice and end up getting rid of (at a loss usually). I’ve got much better at waiting and considering, and I find the urge fades away after a few days.

I was on bag streak the past few months... the whole you-buy-it-when-you-see-it rampage but that’s because I was off bags for years. It’s finally slowing down.

For 2022, I want to do tackle my dream top covets (not bags per se) so hopefully, I can practice self-discipline and make it happen.

I could be guilty of buying out of boredom....and I see a lot of people here on the PF who buy many bags in a short period of time and that can make the think maybe I'm being too careful

I'm by no means great at resisting impulsivity, but what has helped is adding the item to a Pinterest wishlist, which seems to address my faulty justification for impulse buying - "What if I forget about it?" (which also begs the question of how important it was in the first place). I also try to delay at least one day before buying to avoid making an emotional purchase. Oftentimes I wake up the next day with no burning desire for the thing I was wanting the day before. That tells me it was a mood thing versus an "I really want that item" thing.

I used to be the worst! Now things are looking up.
I've had a Adidas x Marimekko Aalto duffel sitting on my sofa for a month. I really, really love the look of it but it's too small for what I need it for. I thought it would be bigger. It's going to be returned tomorrow.

It's been a long morphosis from that person that's just on a bag buying mood (and then buys something) to a person that actually buys bags for a specific purpose. And buy only if I don't have anything similar already. The reason to purchase has to come first, then the bag to fill a need.
