Hello all :woohoo:,

I am just wondering if anyone in the UK had purchased anything from ebay sellers outside Europe and if so, How much did you pay for import duty???

As most H items on ebay are from US or Japan, so I would like to find out the extra charges first before I make any purchases.

Thank you in advance.

You really are better off getting it sent to a friend in the US if you can - in fact if you're looking for a Birkin it would almost be cheaper (and more fun) to fly to collect it!

Thank you MB and CG.

I did think about sending it to a friend in the US. But if you pay by PayPal, usually seller would only send the item to the confirmed address:push:.

It would be nice if I can collect it in person, lol, and do lots of shopping in the US. I don't think my DH would like the idea though;).

Also I have been reading about some leather cleaning and protection cream, ie, Leather CPR, Meltonian, Blackrock leather conditioner, etc. which can only be found in the US. It would be nice if I can get those as well, if I go to collect in person.

Just keep dreaming and browsing on the web in the meant time :smile1:...........

I've imported a lot and it hurts! The first cost is the shipper's "clearance" fee, starting at £8.50 for Royal Mail and rising up to £20 for other shippers. Next, you have the applicable rate of duty added to the value of the item (and this value includes any shipping cost so if it's shipped safely/quickly but expensively by courier, it hurts more!). It ranges from, say, 4% for a leather jacket to 12% for a pair of jeans. The final insult is that these figures are added together to produce a final value to which VAT at 17.5% is applied. Ouch!

My best/worst buy was a Chanel tote from eBay; I won it for £650 but the final cost was more than £800. Still, I loved it!

I'm in Sweden, and all goods coming from outside Europe is hit with a heavy import tax, accessories/clothes +37%. It's a pain and makes it almost impossible to buy from the States/Asia.

However, most sellers on ebay are willing to declare goods at a lower value (eg. less than $100) incl. no shipping insurance, at your own risk, of course. I always ship this way and have been lucky so far!

Except my HAC which I bought from the States. It was too expensive to gamble with and to ship excl. insurance. So I had it sent to a friend in NY, where I picked it up later . The seller was very cooperative, not all sellers will ship to a different address than on your paypal account.
