I'm having issues with the kisslock on my Stam

Ok, so does anyone else have this problem? I just received my Stam that I ordered from Bloomies. Needless to say it's brand new but the kisslock is SO hard to untwist. I know my wrist and fingers aren't the greatest since I type for a living but it's a little bothersome. I'm thinking of a scenario when I'm in a hurry (which is all the freakin time!!) and I need to get in my bag....and I can't.......no bueno.

Any advice? I love the bag and don't want to return it.

this has been an issue on a lot of the newer stams. In fact, I was at the MJ store one afternoon, and someone brought a stam to the counter & asked the SA how to open the bag. After the customer walked away, he & I had a little chuckle about it, as he said they're asked that at least once or twice a week!!

This has been discussed before several times, here are some threads that might be helpful to you:

Thank you. Very helpful so I'll try the trick later.

Realizing this thread is several years old. I bought a black patent leather stam from Bloomingdales a few years back on sale. I think it was $1K - never used it and initially, did not have any problems with the kiss lock. Recently, I pulled it out of my closet and I could not get it open for the life of me. I researched the Purseforum and tried all the recommended tricks - no luck. I went to my cobbler and he stated there's a chance he would damage the bag during the repair. I finally emailed MJ.com and they suggested sending it to Modern Leather Goods in NYC.

Because this bag is discontinued, I wanted to keep and use it. The shipping cost was $50 and repair was $140 to re build the kiss lock. Close to $200 or 20% of the bag. Probably not worth it in hind sight but I didn't want to give it to a reseller for a fraction.

Just wanted to say, Modern Leather Goods was a good resource in this situation.

Glad you were able to get it sorted out. That's an unusual problem; typically gently adjusting the frame is an easy fix.

Thanks. Yes, highly unusual. Could have been my fault for not using it at all - somehow, the kiss lock froze up. It's more of a sentimental thing to keep this bag - at least it holds a lot.

Hehe kisslock can be tricky but once you get the hang of it, it's fine. The only issue I've found is that the bag at times doesn't seem greatly aligned when the kisslock is closed. Aftertime the top appears slightly open despite the bag being closed. I did hear that was one of the issues with the kisslock, which may explain why it was discontinued but I'm not sure if it's just the leather softening over time. Urgh! Either way, I do love my little stams

It wasn't a very common problem and not a reason why they're no longer made.

I can't find it right now, but there was a post somewhere about how to gently twist the frame to realign it. I wish I could remember what it was...All I remember is that it worked for one of mine that had the same issue.
