If you could design a line what would it be?

Clean lines, functionality and ease of wear. I hate bags that look beautiful but are not functional nor wear well. I also want thick leather, I don't care that it is heavy, I want chewy leather!

I'd prefer more classic styles that go the distance and better quality leathers... in other words, timeless pieces to be used for ages.

Put these two together and bingo!

I don't have all the details worked out but it would have pockets, long straps and/or thick straps and feet. I think they'd be more east/west as opposed to north/south. Oh and they'd definitely have a d ring inside for your keys to clip on to and maybe one outside for bag charms.

Lots of texture and color options and a ton of detail. Shapes and trim borrowing heavily from the flow of the art nouveau era. And a coordinating collection of dog fobs/charms in a wide variety of breeds so you can flaunt your love for your canine pal(s). :doggie:

I can start tomorrow, Coach. :D

Laughing out loud Stardustgirl !!

Convertible Hobo, Satchel and maybe Messenger and Pony Express Pouch styles, in larger sizes, between 12 and 15 inches long and between 9 to 12 inches high. Minimum to maximum drop for the long strap would be 22 to 27 inches. On bags with shorter shoulder straps, the short strap would be soft, at least an inch wide, and completely removable with a gate-type spring ring, maybe even with some kind of length adjustment. The Pony Express Pouch strap would need enough grommets to be worn 3 ways, or maybe an extra-long strap could be ordered as a crossbody option. I like Gr8onteej's suggestion for a clip on the outside for bag charms too, like Kipling does for their monkey charms.

Soft leather similar to the Kristins but a bit thicker, flexible and unstructured on the Hobos and P.E Pouches. LARGE outside pockets on both front and back (this detail is NOT negotiable !!!) with the front pockets similar to the Kristin Hobos, or a pair of large turnlock front pockets like the old Musettes and Pony Express Pouches, but with gussets. LOTS of colors, some darks and pastels (Periwinkle, please!) but mostly brights and jewel tones like red, cobalt, turquoise, emerald, jade, and several shades of purple in both blue and red tones. Some iridescents like the Hologram, some durable metallics or something like the Bronze color used on the Rhyders, and some embossed leathers. A good choice of jewel-tone suede leathers for Fall and Winter, maybe a few styles in linen or twill for summer, plus some in each style with thicker pebbled leather like the old Sonomas.

Solid metal hardware - no coated plastic! And nickel-colored hardware standard across the line to go with most of our keychains and bag charms, with a few basic colors like black, tan (or WHISKY like the original 65th Annoiversary Legacy leather) and red also available with brass hardware. NO unnecessary hardware like studs or non-functioning turnlocks or chains that just add more weight.

At least 3 inside pockets, plus a padded sleeve for larger electronics at least in the Satchel and Messenger styles. Light-colored linings to make it easy finding things and designed to be easy to wash, a 12-inch long leather cable on the inside with a clip for your keys (another good idea from Kipling), a FREE lined waterproof zip case for pens and markers so we could stop seeing pre-owned bags with ink marks all over the lining, and a base with some flexibility - the Satchels can be a bit stiffer and more structured than the other styles, but they shouldn't be more than 4 or 5 inches deep front to back. Outside pockets on the narrow ends of the Satchels and Messengers and maybe the P.E. Pouches would be nice too. Maybe one style like the Pony Express pouch would just have the natural suede on the inside and be a bit more squishy and flexible so it would fit closer to the body like the old Hippie-style bags while still being big enough to carry all our "stuff" - it should be one of the largest styles.

One more thing - the top should always have a wide enough opening so that things like personal electronics, full-size wallets and all the rest of our "stuff" can be put in or taken out with no problem.

And keep the prices under $500, please! :D

Yes, to every thing you said and I did think of the Kipling key attachment-I'm using my Kipling today (Dooney has this too in my totes) when I was writing my description. Your line is spot on, I'd buy it.

I'd try to design a line inspired by classic TV shows, with top-quality leather (like the ones Hyacinth listed) and solid (or hollow, if weight requires) hardware that's made of the metal it looks like. If it looks like brass, it'll be brass, by golly! The line would not necessarily be graphics based, more like prevalent motifs in the genre would influence the designs. Graphics pieces will be the only pieces to use saffiano/ crossgrain/ or similar. I'd price it so that most people who wanted it could afford it, since it'll be so awesome everyone will want at least one thing.

Westerns: Horse-inspired motifs would be appropriate, maybe a few graphics pieces of horses running free or with cowboys or stage coaches. Although a gun owner myself, I don't like to see them on bags (and there's all ready mall kiosks and flea markets full of them anyway), so no gun graphics, or anything disrespectful to Native Americans.

Sci-fi: Robot and spaceship-inspired designs, with a few themed pieces (TARDIS hangtag case, anyone? :graucho:). And you can even fit dinosaurs into this branch, thanks to shows like Land of the Lost!

Horror: Finally, campy horror, ala The Adams Family, The Munsters (Dragula: the bag!), Dark Shadows, etc. Expect lots of black suede, dark velvets and satins, gunmetal hardware, and maybe even spider-web patterned lace on this line.

Designing our own lines would be a lot of fun...:thinkin:
