I want to get a pair of everyday studs that are a little fun and different, and I saw this pair from Verstolo and really liked the concept. I was thinking I might ask to customize a pair similar to this, with one diamond and one gemstone, each about 0.5 ct (so, each earring is about 1 ct) . I'd love to solicit opinions/help on the gemstone.

My eyes are a greenish grey (similar eye color pic below) and I'd love to find a gemstone that makes them pop (ideally green). My only specifications are that the gemstone has to be clean to the eye and relatively durable (e.g. not emeralds). I absolutely love alexandrite but I think that stone is best when it's > 1 ct.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

There are so many shades of green that it is difficult to know where to start recommending anything. Using green next to your eyes can either make your eyes look greener or do the opposite and actually compete with your eyes, visually reducing all of the green in your eyes and leaving them looking simply grey. My daughter has green-grey eyes and some greens make her eyes look very, very, green and others make them look grey. Both are gorgeous in my opinion, but I do understand that people prefer to enhance their green.

If you want to enhance the green in your eyes, pick a shade that picks up the same green as you have in your eyes. For maximum effect, the shade of green should match the green in your eyes as closely as possible. If you have any green tops that result in compliments on your eye color every time you wear them, note what colors those are. Narrowing down the specific shade of green that actually enhances your eyes rather than competes with them, will be a good place to start looking for a stone.

Reds, pinks and purples would actually make them look greener.

Alexandrite would be prohibitively expensive even 0.5s

Green tourmalines would be nice.

Yes, I agree. OP prefers green though, so that's why I focused on that color. I do think that amethyst would be a good option though because purple is very nice with green eyes and is a relatively affordable option. Reds and pinks can also be really nice and have many beautiful stone options in those colors. Not sure if OP is interested in non-greens?

My daughter's green-grey eyes are greatly enhanced when she matches the green with an olive green shirt and light pink eyeshadow. The olive green is an almost exact match to the green in her eyes, while the pink seems to act as the "contrasting" color (red/green). The picture shown above, reflects a bluer grey than my daughter's however, so something that is more olive green or yellow-green (like peridot) might not work as well for that coloration.

One thing I've seen that actually works well on some people with grey eyes, is to wear a jewel tone blue, like royal blue or cobalt blue. The vividness of the blue shirt makes the eyes appear less blue, thereby enhancing the other color in the eyes (usually either grey or green).

This picture of a green tsavorite garnet looks like it might enhance the eyes in the pictures above. Green tourmaline is a good option too.

Thank you all for the suggestions!

@AnnaLou you make a great point about the shade being key. To be honest, I think I’ll need to do some more investigative work to see what colors really make my eyes pop. When I really want to make them pop with my eyeshadow, I find that a purple-leaning magenta shade is most effective (as @papertiger pointed out). That said, you are right that I just love green and would love to find a green gemstone if I can.

Of the options thrown out there, are there any that are more durable/suitable for everyday wear? I’m not well versed in gemstones and want to make sure I don’t end up with something too delicate.

I'm not knowledgeable about gemstone durability, but I imagine that you would be able to find info online on various stones as you narrow some down for color.

It's a really nice idea and I hope you post pictures if you do get them made! :)
