...and nearly fainted!!

After my little whingefest on the Chat thread, I wanted to share this little tidbit with you. Having just visited my hometown in rural Germany, I went to a local shop (it's really three shops all by the same owner) who sells Mulberry. In the past I only ever had a wee look not really knowing my Mulberries and not really being able to comment on prices, desirability etc...
Well, imagine my surprise to see that they had a massive stock of old and new Mulberries, bags that you can only get second hand - if you're lucky - these days.
Apparently they cannot shift the older stock but had hardly anything reduced. One of the shops had chocolate Eustons reduced down to EUR 400 minus a further 30% which brought it down to EUR 280 - unbelieveable. Oak Kenya Jayde and other, smaller bags in kenya leather. One that looked like a smaller Martha. They also had Emmys, Alanas and Mollies in choc and oak, various Mabels (black and black metallic), Roxys and Bays in choc and oak - some of them darwin!!! A choc Ivy Bays - which I would have immediately bought if it hadn't been so pricey. And, the piece de resistance, an oak Effie! Brandnew! Only things was, the inking job on it was atrocious. They were asking EUR 580 for it and when I enquired about a discount she more or less immediately offered it for EUR 480. That wasn't even 20% and I'm glad I didn't buy it. However, I reckon it will still be knocking around at my next visit, hopefully at the end of October. Does anyone know how much these bags went for originally? I'll try and offer an amount for it and see whether they go for it. They must have had it knocking around the shop for years!
BTW, first time someone commented on one of my Mulberry bags. SA was smitten with my ticking Bays....

I just remembered, they also had a choc Annie, oak Phoebes and some nappa leather fringed bag, worn messenger style, plus a myriad of messenger bags (Somerset, Ant, Seth, the men's ranges). It really was like a museum...

Sorry gals, only getting back to this now....as some of you know my laptop was swiped and no home access at mo.....

It was in Münster (north-west Germany), nearest large airport is Düsseldorf (or the local one, which is accessible from Gatwick - I think - for those who wanna take a look..:graucho:

klp - a lot of the shops over there won't even take credit cards, so I doubt they'd be open to mail order. However, they might do the bank transfer by Swift. I really don't know. FYI, they are called Country Classics (the other shop they own is called Pure and no idea to what the third one is called). If you do a Google search on google.de for Münster Country Classics, it should come up.

I'm hopefully back there at the end of October and will come prepared this time (mental note: need to save MONEY!!!!). Seeing that they are sitting on so much old stock, they might be open to a bit of negotiating....In any case, I'll find out whether they'd do mail order.

My current major search is for a new laptop....any ideas?

Mine is a DELL & it is fab! I love it! It is purple too :yahoo: (Shhh dont tell anyone that was the deciding factor for me  )

LMM - Dell is the one we're looking into at the moment too!!! My old one was a Toshiba.

DH told me that insurance cheque arrived today and the wireless modem from our broadband provider. Just found out that the Dell computer we were considering is about EUR 70 cheaper in Northern Ireland....It comes in pink, red, ice blue etc ....Newry here I come!!!!!

Sorry to be a party pooper but I would advise everyone to be extremely cautious before buying Dell! They are great until there's a problem. My DH bought one less than 2 years ago, it was one of the more expensive XPS models costing over £900. Then one day (when it was just outside the warranty period!) he noticed a thin trail of smoke come out of the keyboard......:cursing:

Dell's telephone diagnostic service (via Delhi!) quoted £350 to repair it. He took it to 2 local specialists but neither of them were able to fix it, as Dell apparently refuse to sell the spares. He ended up having to scrap it. If you do a bit of research online (which he obviously didn't!) you will v quickly discover that their aftersales and reliability record is not the best - in fact people who work in IT will tell you that DELL stands for Don't Expect Long Life! Charming. A friend of mine had a Dell desktop which needed the hard drive replacing after just 14 months, though luckily she had paid for an extended warranty. I think one of the main problems with them is that they hold some massive contracts (they supply laptops to the NHS for example) and so us little people don't seem to matter very much when it comes to customer service.

DH now has a Toshiba, which he is very happy with; I have a MacBook Air which I completely love! It is the best thing ever. Yes Macs are expensive, but they are worth every penny. Apple is the Mulberry of the laptop world in my opinion!

Thanks for that Mulberryfloss! I certainly will look into that. I was happy with my Toshiba and never had any problems with it, so might do some research on that again as well.
