I was in Hong Kong last weekend and bought a Kelly short wallet (yay).
Then I was offered a 35 dark blue Birkin in Togo leather.... however I already had a 35 Blue Jean Togo so I turned it down. The SA seemed disappointed.
Now I am paranoid about it, am I dead to Hermes?????

I am pretty sure that people turn down Birkins all the time, as the bag offered may not be the leather, color, and/or size that they want to purchase. I would not worry about it.

Buying a luxury item should make you feel happy and excited, not scared. You can politely decline an item, and it is your right to do so if you don't like to purchase it for any reason. If your SA expects you to buy everything that he/she offers you, then you will no longer be happy and excited obviously. And if that is truly the case, it's time to change your SA.

Have you been shopping at that store in Hong Kong? or just a visiting ? I'm surprised that they would offer a B or K with a purchase of one wallet. Maybe it is due to the larger size as they are not in demand at the moment. They probably don't like to have inventory sit for a while. Nevertheless, you made the right choice and choose only what you like. Rather than sitting in your closet and not getting use, only buy something that sings to you.

I have to ask, when you say you turned down a Birkin, do you mean that they offered it free with the wallet as the previous poster stated? Or were you shown the bag and asked if you wanted to buy it?

If it's the latter, I think the SA is used to it, even at Hermès.

I’d love to hear more about the circumstances of the B offer too as it’s really hard to get a B or K in Hong Kong - very rare to be offered one with only a wallet purchase. Was the SA someone you’ve built spending history with already?

You’ll be fine. I know some people have find high end boutiques to be quite snooty. I’ve never been to an Hermes store since I don’t have one in my city and don’t buy overseas because of customs, but I doubt they’ll care that much that you turned down a bag that you already had. Plus, you’re the one paying!
