Michael Kors I ruined my Hamiltons' handles!!!

Hi!!!

I'm the kind of girl who carries a lot of stuff... So I noticed that the two Hamiltons I have became more slouchy... I thought it was normal, because of the weight... But today, I just noticed that the handles are torn, I mean, not the leather of the handles, but the hard thing inside... IDK if you understand... Is there anything I can do?

Any of you have had the same problem?

I don't live in the U.S. or Europe, and in my country there's no place to fix them... (at least, I haven't found). And I guess, it would be pricy.

Any suggestion, please? :help::help::help::help::help::help::help:

Or what can I do? Now I carry less stuff, but I don't like using the long strap, it looks too short on me...

Thanks in advance.

I think this is common with Hamiltons although I'm not sure if they are necessarily torn. Is it happening where the strap meets the hardware? I think 2 of my Hamiltons have this issue although it isn't something you can see but rather you can feel so it doesnt bother me. I have seen a few Hamiltons on ebay though that you could see that the strap was completely twisted in that area. If they are less than a year old should be under their guarantee I'd think.

Maybe not necessarily common, but it definitely happens since I've seen two like this on Ebay and the OP said it happened to her. I dunno what kind the op has, but mine is a purple saffiano which you can feel the separation in the handle and the two I saw on Ebay were both purple saffiano but the larger size than mine.

Oh, thanks for your answer, I just checked bags on Ebay, and you're totally right. Yes, it's where the strap meets the hardware... The hard thing inside the leather, and the leather looks a little twisted in that area. :nogood:

Unfortunately, I bought them almost two years ago.

I hope I find a place to fix them.

Thanks a lot!!!

Hello ladies! Been reading TPF for a while now however never really had anything important to add until now, so this is my first comment yay :)

To the point... I have the same issue with my soft leather Hamilton's handles, so do you ladies think this is something to be really concerned about? :/ Should I quit using my bag? That would be a little disaster for me cause I really love it. It's been over a year since I got it too so no warranty time left. What would you think would happend to the handles with time if I continued using the bag? I assume the leather at the spot where the inside is broken would stretch and eventually break off? :(

This kinda makes me sad because I still think this is one of the most beautiful bags out there lol. Anyway TIA ladies for any advices on how to prolong the endurance of the handles while still being able to use the bag.

Would someone be kind enough to post a picture which shows what you are all talking about? I'm a little confused as to whether the problem is with the handles, the long strap, or both. Thanks. . .I would really appreciate it!

Here's what's going on with my Hamilton and what I suppose happened with kwin_av_haartz too...? There is however nothing wrong with the strap on my bag :smile1: (other than that I never use it because IMO it makes the bag less pretty and makes it fold up and slouch :smile1:)

This is the broken handle, the hard stuff inside the leather has broken at the point where my fingers squeeze it.

Here you can see that it's just leather, nothing inside and it twists and bends easily:

So you think this is serious? :shucks:Is it still wearable if filled with only little stuff or is there anything that can be done about this? Thanks if anyone knows...

And kwin_av_haartz I'm sorry this happened to you too and if it's any comfort it seems we're not the only ones with the same problem.

EDIT: Sorry I was not able to insert the images into the text window, I guess I'm gonna need a little practise on that...

My Hamilton has the same problem now. One of the handles is broken "inside" but the outside looks fine. It's kinda expected because I always put everything in it.

It doesn't really bother me tbh. I always think one of the best things about the Hamilton is that you can put everything in it and it still looks stylish. As long as the handle is not completely broken, I'll keep using it :P in the mean time I'll probably start looking for a new one as back up

Thank you so much for posting these pictures! I wonder if MK could advise you on how to get these fixed; I've heard of them (on this site, I believe) repairing bags in the past. If not, do you have anyone nearby who does leather repair? It might be worth dropping by with your bag to see what they say. Thanks again and best of luck!

Thank You PugHeaven! :smile1: Unfortunately it feels a little laborious to take this to MK because as I said no warranty time left and also I'm from Europe and in my country there are no MK boutiques so I would probably have to ship the bag to the United States and well... I bet that would take a loooong long time :smile1:

But thanks for the tip about the leather repair! I should seek into this and try to locate a trustworthy leather craftsman nearby and ask his opinion. I'll post his reply when I get it!

This is caused by the weight of the bag and use of the handles. If you overstuff the bag, sooner or later you will breakdown the tubing inside of the handles. What is in the bag is pulling the tubing down when it is on your arm. Eventually it will separate. Same issue with the more expensive Celine. I hope this helps.:smile1:
