Dear all,

I've never had a clutch so recently I somehow feel the "need" to have one.
I just want to have ONE clutch that is suitable to be carried during the day or for evening. And it has to be a classic clutch that will not be out of fashion 10 years from now (do I ask too much? :p ) Okay, if it is not possible to combine day and evening, then max 2 clutches.

Any suggestion of what kind of clutch should I buy? Color, shape, material, brand?
Budget is below $1500 but the lower the better haha

TIA

Hi, MeSpore. I see that you already asked what color clutch would be good for you, but what color would you lean toward? Black maybe? I ask because I want a clutch too. I've never had one, and I have NO idea what a good color for a clutch might be. I do have a metallic gold "pouch" from a designer that is out of business, and I use that for a clutch now. But I want a real clutch like you do.

Thanks, papertiger. Will go through the list :smile1:

Hi Moonfancy, black will be good. However, I usually wear light color dress in the afternoon.
So not sure if black clutch is suitable? Let's hear from others who have more experience with clutches :smile1:

When my old evening bag died last year, I replaced it with this: http://www.mulberry.com/us/shop/bayswater-search/bayswater-clutch-wallet-black-glossy-goat
Glossy goat wears like iron--this quickly became my day bag for rough weather/city excursions, worn under coat, as well as an evening clutch.
I liked it so well, got another in mulberry pink. The bright color feels more casual.

Here is Duchess of Cambridge wearing her version (a bespoke black suede, I believe), chain removed: http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRXoafpELGp9TbQWek7TCDyz8x7SJQo_I3fPnVEPvsHmC9DyX_k
I think its design looks rather timeless.

Several leather & color choices exist, even pre-owned options from past seasons.
Hope this helps. Happy searching. :)

How much do you usually carry? Do you walk out the door with a couple of cards, a phone and a key - or do you carry a wallet, phone, several keys, and perhaps some cosmetics?

Are you looking for an elegant classic, a playful pop of color - something big and noticeable or something discreet? Also - are you going to carry it regularly, or just occasionally.

I love the VBH Manila clutch - simple, elegant. I have one in a red satin for a playful pop with an elegant gown, or for contrast with blue jeans. Retail is currently $1100 for calfskin or satin - sadly, this season is mostly exotics ($2600). I've seen them at some online consignment shops for around $300-$700

Lauren Merkin bags are beautifully constructed, and the hold more than my other suggestions. They aren't as elegant as VBH or Gucci; they are somewhat slouchy. The price point is more reasonable ($325)

Kate Spade bags are whimsical and fun and are in a variety of sizes.

And Judith Leiber bags are always chic. Very tiny, and rather rigid so don't plan on carrying much. If you are looking at something plain - satin with crystal trim or a crystal box, it's between $1500-$2200. However - the used market is fairly saturated unless you want a whimsical shape bag - so you can find a lot of snakeskin, satin and plain boxes that should be in your budget range.

I personally carry a vintage Gucci day-clutch (camel leather with optional strap and enamel jockey cap clasp) and it is amazing. It's held up very well for a 40 year old bag. I'm not as fond of the current lines.

I hope you find the bag you need

Thanks all for your suggestion :smile1:

Went through all the list suggested ... So many options and it makes me more indecisive haha
I guess I will go with one black leather and one beige (fabric) for afternoon. Should cover all bases

I am fan of Givenchy..so i suggest..

Most clutches I love are older, and all Gucci, hysteria python, horsebit in black leather, love all the horsebit detail clutches. But all of mine were purchased a few years back. And they are all still simply ravishing. But u can't go wrong with Gucci really
