Hi all, I have naturally curly hair and I'm having some problems with it. It is bleached from a dark brown to a blond color. It is super curly. I have not heat styled it in many months so I'm trying to work with the natural curl. I'm currently using Pureology Strength Cure shampoo which is sulfate free and then Pureology Hydrate conditioner. Once a week I use the Pureology Superfood Hydrate hair mask instead of the conditioner. To style it, I use Aquage curl defining cream (I also have the Aquage mousse but I prefer to use that instead of the cream only when I heat style it which has been never lately.)

So the whole day that I have washed my hair, my curls look great--very soft and frizz free. However, the next day when I wake up and all day my hair looks super frizzy and a little dry. I'm trying to only wash it 2-3 times a week because people say washing curls everyday is bad for hair health. (My hair also doesn't get oily unless I go a whole week without washing.) How do you guys make next day hair work?? I don't know if I am rolling around a lot in my sleep. My question is how do I sleep with my curls so that they aren't frizzy the next day? Or how do I make next day hair work without actually going in and re-washing it? TIA. :smile1:

I have NC curly hair but probably not as tight a curl as yours. I sleep with my hair in a pony on top of my head. I only wash it once a week. If it starts to look frizzy or kinda bad I touch it up with a curling iron. Some say sleeping with a satin pillow case helps. Have you looked on naturallycurly.com? lots of chat and suggestions there for curlies, whether tight curls or waves, etc.

Yeah, "pineappling" it helps (the pony on top of the head). Some people also just rinse on the non-wash days to reset the curls. I find color treating my hair makes it dry and so it requires a lot of moisture (wetting/conditioning) everyday to keep the frizzies at bay.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've ordered some Moroccan Oil and am going to incorporate a little bit of that into my hair routine. I've also started pulling my hair up into a pineapple at night and am hoping that these things will help with second day hair frizz and dryness. So far, I am seeing a little bit of improvement from pulling my hair up at night. The moroccan oil hasn't arrived yet.

Get a silk pillow case. Make sure it is real silk, no satin or polyester. And only wash your hair with cold water. I stopped all heat 4 months ago. I thought I had curls because without the flat iron, my hair was a thick mass of coarse, frizzy curls. It's actually just wavy now. And no frizz since sleeping on silk pillow cases and using cold water. I wash my hair over the bathtub, on my knees, which isn't that fun. Yet I can really massage my scalp (I use one of those plastic shampoo scalp massagers). I take my time. I leave conditioner on for 10 mins after combing it out with a wide tooth comb, passing the time on my phone, before rinsing well with icy water. I don't use any styling creams, just do a mask once a week. I wrap the soaking hair in a microfiber towel and leave that on for 30 mins or so, then air dry. Huge difference. No split ends either since I started this method. I keep getting compliments from strangers. Used to be my hair looked fried and brittle after the first day of flat ironing it. I have long hair, with lots of greys that are covered with single process color. So having soft hair without faffing about with styling creams, oils, or heat has been a revelation.

I have naturally very wavy/slightly curly hair (2b/2c). I tried curly girl method for a while and it didn't work for me - too much work & strict requirements for lackluster results.

My hair is very coarse with a tendency to frizz, so I understand what you're dealing with. The only thing that really helps me with second-day hair is to mist a light product all over my head so the top layer of my hair is slightly damp, then I reshape & define my curls and smooth out the frizz with either my hands or a brush/pik, then let dry. My favorite is a cheapie - Cantu Coconut Oil Shine & Hold mist. It's under $5 at Sally Beauty, but I've seen it elsewhere. They also have something called the Comeback Curl Enhancer spray for 2nd day hair that you might look into, but I haven't personally tried that one.

I also agree about a silk or satin pillowcase.

I recently embraced my curls (i used to flat iron them out every day). I am loving them. I did struggle at first with having my curls look good on day 2 and 3 (because i dont was very often either). The key is moisture. You need to deliver more moisture to your hair on the days you arent washing. I love the cantu moisture cream (its like $7 at target!). I scrunch that in my hair every morning (with a little water) then diffuse quickly (like 2 mins) and they are totally revived! I also live Deva Curl's finshing spray. I spray that on my curls every day too after diffusing!!!

Good luck!
