My engagement ring is a 1.65 Princess cut cathedral set diamond. I also have a 3-stone princess cut right hand ring with 1 carat in the center and 1/2 carats on the sides. I am barely wearing a ring on my right hand anymore and feel bad because the 3-stone ring is beautiful. I'm contemplating having the 2 1/2 carat stones set on either side of my engagement ring with the center 1 carat made into a pendant. My question is....are 3-stone rings a bad choice to reset an engagement ring into? Are 3-stone rings even "in" anymore? Does anyone have any other suggestions for resetting the rings? TIA for the help.

colleen, while i love threee stone rings i personally would go with a halo setting. they are quite popular these days, plus they are good at making the diamond appear larger. as for the necklace, i would make it into a 3 stone pendant. i have one and i i love it.
post pics when u decide what to do.

good luck :smile1:

I think 3-stone rings will always be in. You see them often in antique jewelry, and up through today. Just make sure if you add the other two stones with your large engagement stone, you have a good jeweler. You might want him/her to set in a prelim setting so you can actually visualize what they will look like together, as the great size difference between your large stone and the smaller stones might look odd.

I didn't even think about that. I like your idea. I went to the jeweler today. My family has used them for over 20 years. I'm confident that he will do a really good job. They said that it wouldn't be difficult to do once I pick out a setting. I found one that I like that will accomodate the 3 stones with a little detailing on the sides. I really do like the idea of the 3 stone ring. I looked at the halo setting. It is really pretty as well, but unfortunately it is not really my style.

I think 3 stones are classic! I love them and I think it's great that you're "recycling" your ring into something you can use. I also wear a 5 stone ring and sidestones used this way is a very classy way to add some bling and size to your finger, but more understated than a halo (which I also love, btw, but when I had a halo it was not quite right for me).

When I was replacing my e-ring in Sept. I was so torn on doing a 3 stone vs. a solitaire. I ultimately went with Solitaire but that's because I was being cheap lol!

I think a 3 stone and a resulting pendant is a great idea.
