My courtenay's short strap is adjustable. The loops are one of the things that I like about the bag, but if they bug you, they'll probably only bother you MORE once you're carrying it around, imo. You should get a bag you're totally happy with, otherwise it'll probably spend more time in your closet than being worn.

I'm going to give courtenay a chance, I think I can get used to the straps especially if they flatten out a bit after carrying it.
