I just got the call for my dream Rolex yesterday, but…

The rolex watch specifically is the lady datejust, 28mm, TT jubilee with MOP dial and diamond bezel.

The thing is… I have been debating between a couple of watches for a while now. This LDJ as well as the all gold Cartier Panthere in a size small.

I have been trying to take my time to think about which I want more and which would suit my collection, etc. Funny (or not so funny) enough, the other day I thought to myself in the morning that I really am starting to lean towards the Cartier. I don’t have an all gold watch in my collection and I really like how feminine and girly it is (and bracelet like!)

However, to my shock, I received a call in the afternoon that my AD has my watch. I have a few days to decide for sure and keep in mind this is after waiting for 6 or so months. I know if I turn down this offer, I won’t be able to deal with this AD again. I also don’t want to regret passing this up (MOP is a hard find). On the same token, I don’t want to get this watch and then regret not getting the Cartier. My budget only allows for one at the moment and I really just hate Rolex’s business model overall, because if it weren’t for that, I could take my time to make the right decision for me.

This is my current collection (I very much dislike the choices I’ve made thus far other than the Chanel watch which was my last gift from my late mother)

Mostly TT and only one (the Chanel) has diamonds. My personal style is very girly, feminine, and I’m petite (5’0”). I’m also in my early 20’s and just want something that will suit me! (I really don’t think this current Rolex in my collection suits me at all, although it sort of works if I dress myself down a lot with a sweatshirt and sweatpants or a sportier outfit).

I’m really stuck at this point! Any advice??

Also this is one picture I have of the Cartier when I tried it on a while back (I’ve never been able to try on the exact Rolex, since it isn’t one they had in exhibition)

It sounds to me like you prefer the Cartier, and you would regret not getting it. i agree with @Swanky that there are plenty of other AD’s if you choose to get the Rolex in the future. (But, full disclosure, while I am not a fan of the panthere —I prefer the pasha, the tank Francoise, or the santos— I strongly dislike the Rolex jubilee TT. I wore that Rolex in the 1980s, and still haven’t shaken that association. I happen to prefer the rolex you ready own, and I do think you might enjoy an all gold watch). I do think the panthere all gold is more feminine and dressier.

I’m biased because I LOVE the panthere, it’s my favourite watch, but… you do already have the TT panthere.

What if you were to get this Rolex (if you try it on and really love it on your hand ofc), sell your TT panthere and then buy the gold panthere? I don’t see the usefulness of having both the TT and the solid gold in the same watch though, so regardless of what you do with the Rolex I would sell the TT if you buy the gold panthere.

I also looked at your collection again and saw that you also have a TT Rolex (not well versed enough in rolex models to know which one) and huh. Now I really wonder if you need the Rolex LDJ, but you sound unenthused about the one you have as well…

So here is what I would do - I would sell both your TT Rolex and your TT panthere. Buy the LDJ if you love how it looks on your wrist, and then save up for the gold panthere (because that one is far more easily available). If you prefer to buy first and sell later (so that you’re not “stuck” without a model that you want, that works too).

You say the Rolex is your dream watch, so like Swanky suggested, go and try it on. Don't make any decisions until you see it on your wrist. You never know, you may dislike it or absolutely love it once you see it on. As far as the all gold Panthere, I would think twice about that one because you already have the TT version, and I just can't see having two of the same watches. Even if it's all gold and TT comparatively. Try on the Rolex before you make any decisions, you never know. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Having 2 nearly identical watches makes no sense--for me. One would spend most of its time sitting in its box.

I do have nearly identical handbags but they differ in color, etc. so they do get rotated. You do seem to lean towards the Cartier though, sell the one you have and get the one you really want. Good luck with whatever you choose!
