3 years ago, I brought a navy soft 16 in Nordstrom. At the time, I really wanted the tan color, but I wasn’t finding it anywhere, so I went with navy. Well, it’s been all this time and I have basically not touched it. The style is a little fussy to get in and out of, and I have no idea how to style a navy bag. I mostly wear black/white/grey neutrals, and the navy seems to clash with everything I wear.

What would you do? If I sell, I’m looking at only getting about $1,000. If I keep it, it just sits around unused. Am I missing a way to style this bag?

I've been wearing navy a lot recently (not Celine). Navy is really better than black so I have a lot of dark blue denim and navy sweaters.

Navy = black and blue. Therefore navy is (almost) as much black as it is blue. I agree, if you're a black + black + black person, navy may seem off, it perhaps does need less black in the mix. Add a scarf, belt, necklace, bracelet or other accessory with a little (or a lot) of navy so the bag looks meant. Don't be tempted by shoes or boots though (IMHO). Paint your nails navy or wine so there's a nod to co-ord colour just in the detail, wear sapphires or other dark blue stone jewellery. It only has to be a tiny nod to blue with an all black outfit and suddenly, the black and the blue are connected.

Think about classic combos: Black trous., white shirt and navy blazer, absolute classic, why not a navy bag instead of a blazer? If a black blazer is to 'off' for you, use a grey or white taupe or tan jacket/sweater. How do people get away with dark denim? Simple white tee or shirt, and they're done. They wouldn't even think 'navy'. Just wear your white tee or shirt with black pants and carry your navy bag with pink, red or berry polish or lipstick. If you carried a black bag with the same outfit it would look like you're off to a uniformed job, a navy bag will lift the bag from the usual workers' uniform to chic classic.

Grey and navy sound like perfect fit for Autumn and Winter. In the Summer, easy-peasy with whites. For Spring co-ord your greys and/or whites with any tiny touch of green somewhere, light olive, sage, leaf, jade, navy looks fantastic with green.

Hate is a strong word and if that is how I truly felt about a bag then there's no remedying it for me. I would know that regardless of how hard I tried, I would not be able to make it work. I would just sell it and take the loss.

However, because you asked this question on the forum, I'm sure you still have some hope to remedy this. And if you do, then it depends on how hard you are willing to try to make this work and maybe end up liking the bag again.
I don't have a navy bag so I don't think I'm very helpful. I do have blue bags and I love and enjoy using them.
I agree with most others that Navy is quite a versatile color and can be worn with many things. I have recently started to incorporate navy clothing into my wardrobe, albeit it took a while to mentally make that adjustment. (I am not good with colors, even very versatile and palatable ones.)

Making yourself take it out and try it with the items in your wardrobe is the only way to know if you can make it work. Good luck!

I have bought bags that have sat unused for months, but I have loved them and knew I would eventually wear them. I have only once bought a bag that I instantly disliked and then resold for a big loss.

It sounds like you truly dislike everything about this bag. If I were you, I would sell and put the 1k towards something you will actually use. Better to have 1k towards a new bag/in the bank than sat gathering dust in your closet imo  it's a lesson learned to only buy what you love in future and to hold out for what you actually want!

If can get in hand $1,000, that’s not bad, I would sell it.

It’s just a tough loss when they retail for over 3k now. It’s apparent that Celine resale isn’t going to make me rich, haha. I wish I could trade someone for a different color and see if I liked it more then.
Well, if you can afford to wait and sell to the price you like that would be a better option. Trading can be dangerous, regarding authenticity, condition etc. I have never traded with any individual but once with a business, even that one, the condition was slightly more used than I expected.

It's not the retail now, it's the price you paid.

Personally, I would try using it first to see if you like the style, so at least you can see exactly what it is about the bag you don't like. It just be that you are blaming the bag for the way you feel about yourself )for buying it). If it's just the colour, then at least you'll know what to work on - or never buy again.

New colours or styles always take a while to work out, and we can't work them out sitting in our wardrobes.

Force yourself to use it for a week with every outfit and outing and if you still don't like it then let it go. After a week nonstop you should know if it's the bag you dislike or the color. You might get more if you wait to sell, but be realistic, it'll never get you back 3k or even 2k. You did already mention the in/out was fussy, so it's probably not something another color would solve. I know that Rebag does trades and Fashionphile gives credit towards other items.
