You shouldn't have to rub really hard. If it is just a light surface scratch which is usually the case on box, it should take the polish well and look better ASAP. If it is really a deep scratch, then it will stay there, but should look a little better. It is better to polish, wait and polish again. Each time with a light rub. If you are applying the polish thinly and letting it dry completely before the buffing, it should work well. I think that the boutique is doing the polish/buff process several times when you bring it in. People tend not to have the patience to let the polish dry properly before buffing. Rome wasn't built in a nanosecond!

Do you think Paris can do anything to remedy the Kelly? What do you do if it doesn't turn out perfect?

I am always totally shocked when I read that people use that stuff on there bags,

I only use Hermes on nourishing creme, and its worth every penny!! to take it to the spa once a year. why spend so much money on a handbag and then go put shoe polish on it.

Sorry but when I read this I am amazed, also when I read people wash there scarves I am again totally mortified, I pay the 10 uk pounds to have mine dry cleaned at Hermes ( they send them to there specialist dry cleaner) again worth every penny.

Hermes make a nourishing creme for sports shoes a damp cloth wiped over the bag, then dried gently, and a touch of this cream gently wiped in a couple of times maybe after rain.

I so hope they can sort this out for you . My store wont touch bags that have been messed around with other polish they refuse to clean them,

let us know how it goes

Never knew about the nourishing cream. But for me, I get really funny looks when I bring in the vintage bags. I take in my newer bags, but the store started giving me the funny looks like I was a reseller. So I started maintaining my vintage myself. I don't resell, but I own several older bags I bought outside the H.

Will try to get a photo of it tuesday and post it. Hope I didnt sound too waspy in my message, I know it must work for some people, but I would be just too scared to use anything on mine, except the Hermes Product

Its called "Baume Nourrissant" its for hermes calfskin sports shoes
It says on the label

cleans , nourishes and protects Hermes calfskin sport line shoes due to its uniques specially devised wheat protein and joyoba oil

apply the nourishing bain using a was of cotton ( be careful the product is very rich so only use small quantities) Leave to dry then shine with a soft cloth

Those are the exact words on the tub.

Hope they can help with the lining on the box bag. am sure they can .

No you were fine, I just get mad at the store because they get so weird about vintage. I can get the creme at BH. I just never knew it existed.:yes: I have to be careful since I walk my bags in for the spa . I have a bag in now and rotate the new ones but after they gave me the evil eye I stopped bringing in the older bags. I shop at another H.

Crazy isnt it, they should not do that. I take my vintage bags there, they just charged me 100 |£ to polish my pm jige, ( whew I nearly passed out)

LH, I am not going to bag slap you or anything, but why are you polishing your bag anyway?

My black box bag is 15 years old and I have never put any polish on it and it hasn't been to the spa. It looks great. I have asked at Hermes a few times if it needs to go in and each time they tell me no and not to mess with a good thing. I worried it may be dry or that it should just be polished and I was told, no and to let it be unless it bothered me.

It will be fine...

Crikey! :wtf: I need to send my box birk for a good touch up (will probably do it after the holidays) so I'm wondering how much it'll cost me.

And that's why I polish my own bags and wash my own scarves. Personally I think £100 for a jig with a cloth and polish for PM Jige is way too pricey, I'd rather eat my own hair! Not getting at you of course, but I was very disapointed with a conditioning I had done at Bond Street some years ago, it looks no different when it was returned only the hardware was dirtier on its return. Paris is a better option for UK bods but I think we all have different experiences and so others may have far more positive results in the UK. I don't like Hermes in the UK for a plethora of reasons so that does make me extra grrr!! And I completely understand why people don't want to touch their bags, scarves etc for fear of accidents with such expensive goods and that is perfectly fine of course everyone must do what they are comfortable with.

My gut feeling in this case of colour loss is there was some pre-sale touching up or perhaps a bit of excessive rubbing in one spot which is easily enough done easy to get carried away with the cloth. I can't say I've ever had a problem with Calf Box but there is the first time for us all. I once had an issue with Lambskin, the polish darkened the leather but I then applied it all over and it was fine, luckily it was black and in the end it looked better than ever.

I don't find the the dye goes particularly deep into the leather especially the corners it is quite shameful given the expense. I don't have this problem with vintage box pieces, I think it's all part and parcel of the quality not being what it was at Hermes but I wont go down that road or this will be a much longer post.

I've been polishing my own bags now for some time but it is scary so if you are scared don't do it. I don't use cheapo boot polish, I doubt anyone here does and while the official line at Hermes is 'leave your bags alone' the unofficial one is 'get yourself some John Lobb and DIY'!

I think Hermes will be able to sort out the problem with the Kelly, they do like to get all school mistress about it all. Fortunately my homework has been approved of to date by Hermes craftspeople so no behind the blackboard in the corner for me, not yet! Nigh on miracles have been achieved with bags in the past and if there is a leather they can make better it's box.

This is a photo of my forty year old kelly , I use it at least twice a week,
I have to drag it, me and a pull along trolley bag on the train/tube/bus to go see my filthy rich customers in London.

It and me gets v beaten up along the way , with crowds, having to grab oster card for tube etc etc, so she need a spa once a year.
I touch her up around twice a year with the Hermes nourishing cream along with a damp cloth


This kelly of mine has to work the same as I do, no DH here,

I think she looks pretty good for her age thanks to me looking after her


Fleur I was gobsmacked at the cost of the jige pm clean, and it was not hardly touched so I was v upset.

as far as I know its bog standard 100 quid what ever the bag, when are you going? a few of us are meeting up in December S Molton street if your around
