Food I Ate This! Post pictures of food!

I lived in Chicago and the Chicago suburbs for over 50 years until April, 2014. I have so many memories growing up with Harold's Chicken. (My grandfather owned a shoe store on the South Side. Every summer he took vacation and my mom worked in his absence. Every time my sister and I worked with her she'd let us walk to Harold's for lunch.) When DH told me Harold's is now in Vegas I had to check it out. (I went to White Castle Sunday, another childhood place, but I forgot to take pictures. No worries I'm going again soon! ) If you didn't grow up on Harold's it won't have the appeal it has to those of us who did. It's just okay chicken, but their sauce, poured over the chicken, fries, and white bread, and bringing back childhood memories are what makes it good to me. DH had their catfish. He grew up on Harold's also, but prefers their catfish now.20220801_131556.jpg20220801_133342.jpg20220801_133445.jpg

It looks delicious... I love stories like this :girlsigh::biggrin:

Phew, I haven't been here in a while! Since then, I've started eating healthier. I cheat every now and then, especially with desserts but for the most part, I've had to make adjustments to most of my dishes. Some of my meals...

Cajun meatball pasta. The tiny whole grain bow ties are mine..

Creamy steak with whole grain linguine..

Chicken parmesan. I used almond flour in place of regular flour and substituted whole wheat oats for bread crumbs..

Jerk chicken with brown rice and peas..

Keto chocolate fudge cookies..

On one of my cheat days when my friend dropped off mochi donuts :giggle:

What a fun place RN! Absolutely agree with you that sometimes, the memory associated with certain food is more powerful and enjoyable than the actual food itself. Glad you are enjoying Vegas and eating your way through it . Seems like you have been gone for a long time, my friend.

Hi Minda! :hugs:
Thanks!
 When my DH and I were driving here Sunday we started verbally listing the "must see" places in Vegas: Harold's, White Castle, Rosati's Pizza, and Garrett Popcorn. Those are all hometown favorites. DH added a few new places to the list as well. So we are eating are way through Vegas. And surprisingly today is our fifth day here and we still haven't been to a casino! (On the plus side I haven't lost any money yet!) Made it back to White Castle yesterday. Quick picture because we ate in the car. (I had already eaten one of my double sliders.)

It feels like I've been gone a long time! I flew to L.A. June 16th and was supposed to return to SF July 18th. The trip to Vegas was planned while I was in L.A. DH couldn't drive me here until the 31st so it allowed me to spend more time with my son.
