So for our anniversary we decided to get a new setting. I originally wanted a Vatche Royal Crown but when we priced it, the cost was way too high, and it would require some modifications that the company was unwilling to make. (Adding a "bridge" below the wire work so a band wouldn't eat at the wires)

Like an IDIOT I took it to the guy we bought the ring from, even though he's done bad work in the past. I found a new shank/setting that I LOVED in a setting book they had that would be a similar shank but using my same head I currently have. All they had to do was pop my head off the other shank and laser-weld the thing together. But instead they decided to solder, and they melted the head while trying to adhere it to the shank...thankfully my stone was out of the head at the time. Id have killed.

Anyway...when I got it back last week--2 weeks past due--it was not right. They told me i was "seeing things". Um, it's clearly not right, stand it upside down by the head and it falls to the right. So I took it home to avoid that moron from dealing with it and paid for the thing, though not what they wanted me to pay. And I took it right to someone I know does better work, who should've done it in the first place.

When we get the ring back tomorrow/Friday (FINALLY) we are filing a BBB complaint against them to recoup the costs incurred by having their "Quality Jewelry Repair" corrected by someone who isn't an inept moron.

Im pretty sure we'll be out that additional money but I have totally had it. This whole thing has me losing sleep, having nightmares and being general uneasy knowing that I haven't had my e-ring for over a month, and that I can't be sure it'll be perfect when I get it back.

I am going NUTS hoping the time passes faster.

I had the uneven head thing happen to me at my place and they said i was seeing things also. the 4 prongs were tilted and were not aligned.. after a week i was annoyed and took it back.. when i got it back from repair it was the exact same thing.. i was pissed! so i talked to the jeweler and after 15mins of hand gestures he figured it out and drilled the head out and aligned it.. its still not perfect but oh well.

so you arent crazy.. mine also fell to the side too! lucky i got ring from a place where they have free repairs so they see me often =)

This guy flat out sunk the head wrong. Like off center and lopsided. It was bad. And I found out they didn't order the setting from the book like I wanted, they cast it there. Which is also going to come up later.

We've got it all ready to be filed. I am just going to need the list from this guy as to what got fixed.

Hopefully it's ready today and is perfect.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Good jewelers are difficult to find. I hope that your ring looks great when it comes back from the new jeweler. Good luck filing your complaint as well.

I got it back Thursday after work but I have not had a moment to post pics of it. I took a few at work Friday, not great but they'll do!

He fixed it quite well, but there was one little annoying thing with one of the arms that he's fixing right now for me. The other guy shortened one a half mm to try to conceal how off it was, and I want that fixed, but since I wanted to wear it out of town over the weekend he let me take it for a couple days :)

So I will have it back in a couple days. I am very pleased. I can tell the alloy used in this new ring is different than my old because holy hell is it heavy!

I have a before pic in the reference thread up for e-rings. :) Its not on this computer otherwise Id repost! The diff is actually in the shank, this is a styled shank, the other is like a band with a head stuck in it. The head is about the same, this one is lower, which I don't honestly like but Ill live with. I liked how WAY high my old one was.

Its back at the 2nd guys shop getting a tweak made to the cathedral arms. There was a TEENY gap diff so I asked him to close them both to be even. I should have that tomorrow. I hope. He said a couple days and to me that wouldve meant today but Ill hope it's tomorrow. :)
