Hi

I need some help please. Just bought an hermes bag via ebay and asked to have it shipped to Paris.

The ebay seller was amazingly nice and patiente with me as i had an awfull time/experience with ebay and paypal to complete the transaction. Saying that it took less than a week but it was really frustrating and annoying as no explanation whatsoever from paypal on blocking my payment.

Because i didn't tell my husband and i am soon traveling, i wrongly thought best to send it to my mum in Paris so i can drop it directly for an Hermes spa when i am there in few days.
The seller accepted to send it to Paris, adding my mum first name as we have same last name, and she sent it via Fedex.

Bag is now in Paris, with Fedex and i have been asked by customs the value of the bag. I don't understand why they are asking me that as she put the value on it for the insurance.
They are also asking what item is it, brand and leather.

And wait fo the best I live in HK where there is no custom tax !!

Never though it was soooo complicate to buy a second hand !
Many thanks in advance for your help
L

ps i know it;s a real one, i made it authenticate before buying

If the bag was bought from outside the European Union and then shipped to Paris then you will have to pay customs charges and/or import duties. This will not apply if the bag was bought and shipped from the EU.

Once customs are involved it's better to tell the truth as they may well ask you to prove all/any of your answers, paying a bit more for your item won't be as expensive as the fine if youre caught lying.

BTW, French customs have training in the the luxury good goods trade and Hermes and LV are specialties :police:

Oh my god, I will never ever lie trust me ....too scared to do so and really against my principles.
I was more wondering if i should precise the leather ie say it's a togo or just say leather bag.
Should i precise the model or just say a bag ?
Should i precise the brand ?

sorry for expressing myself badly
and thanks for your help

Same thing happens in germany every time, too.

They ask you for the value as they want to have proof. The seller could have put any amount on the customs slip, they want either your payment by paypal printed out or the ebay auction.

Try the french customs page. Normally, you can find anything you're looking for there. Aside from VAT you might have to pay another customs fee for the sort of goods you import (I know of tabac and tea, don't know anything about leather goods). But maybe just phone them?
I'm pretty sure they'll know what rough amount you have to pay and what exactly they need. There should be a phone number on the slip you received.
