As we're expecting to be hit with some of the impending Hurricane Irene tomorrow, I've been thinking about what I'd do with my jewelry in a natural disaster and/or being evacuated. It may be a good idea to put any jewelry that you would be heart-broken if you lost it in some sort of waterproof container. If you had to evacuate, and it wasn't in your safe deposit box, and you couldn't get to the bank, what would you do with it? Would you take the risk of taking it to a public shelter (I wouldn't!), or would you hide it at home, hoping the looters don't find it, should anything bad happen to your home? (I'd also be afraid to do that!) Has anyone had experience with this?
Of course, the first and most important things to be saved are my family and my pets. However, I would at least try to take the box of items that DH has given me over the years (I store them together. If there's a fire, and I've save the family and my cats, it would be the next thing I'd grab, if I could safely do so).
To those in Irene's path: stay safe. I'm thinking of you. Let us know if you're ok!
