How's the wear and tear on the Dior Black Ultramatte Calfskin Saddle bag?

Hi,

I recently bought the Dior saddle bag in cedar green, but I am second guessing myself. I don't actually have any black bags and I know I need one. I really like the look of the the ultramatte black saddle, and I like that the it downplays the branding a bit. I do think I would get more wear out of the black one, just because it goes with everything. But I am concerned with the wear and tear, since the leather is not the grained calfskin. Also, I've seen other comments about the black on the charms coming off. Does anyone have this bag that could speak to the wear and tear?? I need to make a decision before the 30 day return policy expires. Thanks for any help anyone can give me !!

I have the Saddle belt bag in the UltraMatte leather (all black if that matters.)

It’s prone to… not scuffs but almost rubbing so I’d be careful with things like hand cream. But I’ve had no chipping on the charms. I don’t feel like the UltraMatte something I have to be more delicate with than a regular leather - but I’m also of the belief that these things are to be used not sitting in a closet.

It’s a beautiful bag so I’d say go for it. but maybe you could do an UltraMatte Saddle Card case with a regular grained Saddle if you are really worried?

I think the black ultramatte saddle is so beautiful (it gives me cool-girl vibes ) , and it is something that I would be able to use A LOT - pretty much all the time. I get the hand cream thing - I am always careful about that. Thanks !!

I have the ultramatte saddle, as well as a men's saddle in grained calfskin. Compared to the grained one, the ultramatte feels soft and more delicate. With the grained calfskin, I can throw it around and treat it pretty roughly without any worry. For the ultramatte, while I don't baby it, I am much more conscious of making sure it doesn't rub against any rough or sharp materials on my clothes. Certain outfits are a no-go with it for me. I also avoid touching it when I have lotion/hand sanitizer on my hands.

Since I am more careful with it, it's hard to say how delicate the ultramatte actually _is_. I have heard/seen from other ultramatte owners that over time, it can develop shiny spots where the matte wears off on both the bag and the hardware. However mine hasn't had any issues yet after almost 2 years. To be fair, I haven't gotten that much use out of it due to covid and being WFH nowadays, but I did recently take it on a trip overseas and it survived without any noticeable wear and tear.

I'd say if you don't plan on tossing it about all over the place, it's worth the buy. It looks very cool and chic which is precisely why I got the ultramatte instead of the regular saddle for myself.
