Since most of my bags are LV, I figured this was a good forum to ask

I’m curious how much you baby or use your bags. I recently was debating on whether I should get the zipper pull on an old Prada bowling bag fixed and was looking at the bag and omg what a mess haha.

I have destroyed the lining on several bags by carrying books, I don’t protect my bags from weather, throw them on the floor of my car (I don’t put them on the floor anywhere worse because gross and weird Greek superstitions), and generally just use them without much thought to damage. Hell, I hung my world tour NF on a hook with a 10lb weight in it to make the straps not so new and stiff lol.

My H SA looked at me in horror as I told her I inherited a vintage Chanel with an odd length strap for my body so I took it off with pliers and put on an aftermarket strap.

I adore lambskin/calfskin and other soft leathers and all of mine have scratches and scuffs but I totally don’t mind. I’ll punch holes in straps or other such things if that makes the bag work better for me.

I think bags are meant to be used and they’re meant to work for me, but I’ve also had people imply or flat out say I’m crazy and that my bags need protection from me lol.

So what measures do you take to keep your bags looking brand new or do you wear them with reckless abandon?

Good for you! It's important that a bag work for you so if you need to add a grommet or cut a chain, I say go for it.

I feel like I care for my bags, but I'm not overly cautious. I store them properly and clean them if they get dirty. I don't use my DA NF in rainy weather or with dark clothing. But I've traveled across the country with it, and it's been on the floor of countless airplanes, and my car. Same with my other LV & Chanel bags. My philosophy is to use my lovely things because there's no point in them sitting in the closet.

I’m thoughtful of them but I also use them. I like to keep them looking nice but don’t freak out over a scuff or scratch. That said, I don’t want them to look like I drag them behind my car.

I avoid carrying pens, liquid hand sanitizer (use wipes instead), or anything not water that can spill inside.

I’ll carry something else if I’m going to do outdoorsy things, but did recently and unexpectedly find myself scaling a beachside cliff with my speedy 25 recently and, despite it bumping against the cliffs, it didn’t get scuffed!

But I am thoughtful overall. And once something becomes unsightly or begins to look unkempt it gets retired.

I feel a handbag can either elevate or deflate an overall look, and give an impression to others about you. It’s just the unfortunate fact about first opinions.

pixiestyx00 so refreshing to meet someone who is just like me! I agree, bags are meant to be carefree - hence I love LV! They are my workhorse bag. I throw them literally on the dirty of my car etc. I take lunch in them to work. I have done but try to avoid putting a pen without a lid on it directly on the lining in case of leak. I'm debating cutting the strap on the Favourite PM shorter - thanks for the inspiration!

to each their own! It’s your bag to use as you please. I’m someone who likes things clean. I would gladly alter a bag to my needs but I wouldn’t put it on the floor of the car where people's shoes go. it’s not about keeping a bag looking new but keeping it clean. Basically I take care of everything I own but would not get upset if something got damaged b/c that’s life.

I use my bags daily/weekly, I cycle them, but I always use organizers inside and I try to avoid any kind of rain, especially on the leather ones. The canvas I’m not as careful. I always hold it (no placing in carts or floors) and when I sit down I use the hangy thing that clips to the table and you can hang it by its strap. I also keep them put away in my closet when not being used, in their dust bags and I have one of those hang up Damp Rid bags to make sure it doesn’t get too humid/damp in my closet. It might seem like a lot but it’s super easy and I’ve just always established this way of taking care of them. I have sold 3-4 bags now and everyone always comments/messages me back how my bags look like new, so I guess I’m doing something right lol.

I use my bags but at the same time I am mindful of not placing them on the floor, not walking close to walls with them. I ruined a corner of a le pliage tote that way. If that would have been an expensive bag, I would have been upset. I like to keep my items looking good. The longer they look good, the longer I can use them. But I am that way with everything, clothes, home items, etc.

Like many of you, I am thoughtful my bags (and clothes, shoes, etc.), because I like it,when my stuff is in good condition. On the other hand, I do not mind, if my bags getting a scratch or something. At the end of the day they are products of object of utility.
Once I was in a restaurant where they offeres a little stool for the bags - this was really nice. Valued the worth of their guests items.

It depends on the bag I’m using, my neverfull and keepall for example go through everything (floors, airports) whereas I do baby my birkin and capucines. I like my bags to be in a good condition so I keep an eye on most of them but not to the extreme.
