Has anyone run into the issue of making a sale for your vintage Flat Brass First only to have your bag deemed "unable to authenticate" and then returned to you? This has made it really difficult for sellers and buyers across the various re-sale sites. Note that this only happens if the sale is over $500 on some sites. If it's under $500 it doesn't have to go through authentication.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I thought this is something worthy of discussion for hardcore collectors of these rare and beautiful bags.

I have no personal experience of this. But I understand how these rare oldies would be outside the experience of the authenticators some sites use for Bal. I wonder if Corey at RDC would be into authenticating, and lobbying eBay (etc.) to accept her as a Bal authenticator? Can't think of anyone else with her depth and business experience for this tasking.

I know a few people here have run into that problem, there simply aren't authenticators with the depth of knowledge to handle these rare bags.

Had that happen with my burgundy FB tote. Sent a lot of bags to a German retailer I've dealt with before and they took them all, but the tote.

Their reason for declining it was there is no code on the tag back, so authenticity was questionable to them...
They can only sell bags with a code on the tag. Code equals authenticity. LOOOOOOOLLLLLL

I tried telling them why there's no code and whatnot, but nope. They shipped it back to me.
Note, they don't give out quotes at all until they have "checked" the bags.
Such pros...

It’s such a shame because those oldies are so beautiful!

So far Vestiaire might be okay. I just listed a FBF there. If it sells, I’ll come back and let everyone know if it goes through! Also, years ago I sold on Bonanza, but they are very small, even less busy than they used to be, and their search function is not good. There’s always Etsy, unfortunately there seem to be many fakes there. Finally, I have purchased but not sold with Heritage Auction so that would take some research.

I can say not ebay, unless you sell to or from outside the US. Certainly not Poshmark.
