Unfortunately, this is more of a necessity than anything because I have issues with my feet due to injuries that I had when I was younger, and wearing high heels too much didn't help. So sneakers are one of the few kinds of shoes I can wear all day and be comfortable, hardly anything else works for me. I have a major dilemma though because how do I look stylish wearing those? I always hated them :/ and to add, while my current job is casual, its a short term contract and many future jobs may require a professional look. I am at a loss how to make sneakers look stylish and appropriate because I never wore them before.

Hi!
First of all- health should be your number- one priority, since the better we feel- the better professionals we are. Second, luckily the 50’s restricting women fashion is not a mandatory anymore, and the work- wise clothing is much more diverse these days
I can definitely understand you, since in the past the most casual shoe type (outside of the gym) would be the loafers. This year I decided that if important people wear sneakers to work for more than last 10 years, that I also can . So I purchased 2 pairs of Common Projects sneakers for warmer seasons, and flats booties for the colder ones.
About how to combine- basically, we live in such liberal fashion era, so you can be imaginative and creative! My favourite outfits are:
- sneakers, rigid denim jeans, t-shirt/ button down shirt and blazer.
- suit with sneakers
- tailored pants (prefer straight leg or cigarette one), with t-shirt or asymmetric top and sneakers.
Good luck and career, I am sure you will rock it at work and with the outfits ❤️

I like comfortable but stylish footwear, so I understand the dilemma. I find that boot cut and flare pants and jeans are great because they often hide the footwear, or only a little bit peeks through. If you like wearing pants in this style, then you could wear your sneakers and they would not be very visible or obvious. Other than that, I also like to style sneakers with crop pants or ankle pants and of course white sneakers with dresses in the warmer months.

A quick search on google or pinterest will give you lots of style suggestions and chic options on how to style sneakers. I do think sneakers are better suited to a casual look, but so many work places are going really casual so it may not even be an issue in future jobs. When I want comfortable footwear, but do not want to wear sneakers, I opt for wedge heel footwear, chunky heel sandals and almond toe or square toe boots. All of these are very comfortable and the important thing to remember is to choose a shorter heel. Anything that's about two inches or less still feels comfortable. If heels are a complete no go, I wonder if you have looked into flats. Not sure how on trend they are since I am a bit out of touch with trends right now since being home a lot the last year or so.
Good luck!

Have a look at Ecco & Camper. I get them in Europe. Plain colour leather lace up shoes like sneakers. They have decent insoles but you can also use your own. I wear them with pants.

Also Jil Sanders, Paraboot, Margaret Howell, Stewart Weiseman. There are lots of EU shoe designers who make shoes for professional ladies who walk in cities.

I think it takes some experimentation in front of a mirror and then you have to just wear it.

I wear mid-high Nike Dunks* with dresses in the same colorway and get tons of compliments. Same with suits, especially suits with cropped pants, with Stan Smiths (if you're taller, you could also get away with Converse as has been amply demonstrated by many).

If you can swing it, the Balenciaga Speeds look good with just about anything a sock boot would work with. I resisted these for years (that much for trainers??) and now I don't want to take them off.

Common Projects as noted before; Greats; and absolutely Veja which I love, all provide good options. Also, you can look for platforms or hidden wedges that add height and can make the proportion feel or look a bit easier to the un-adjusted eye.

It is SO freeing to be comfortable, and in your case (OP) the most important thing is your health.

*I stopped buying Nike because of labor/environmental practices and will probably have to stop Adidas too, but there is always Veja!!

The possibilities are endless. I just discovered white sneakers go with everything. I love it.

Hopefully you can find some inspiration here.

I have Koio Capri sneakers and they work with so many outfits. They are pretty sleek. I also have some Ecco slip-ons that are pretty versatile. I also have Ecco oxfords (a pointed toe pair in an oxblood color - these work great with a lot of outfits).

And if you can do a hard soled shoe? Freda Salvador has really cool loafers and oxfords - d'orsay style - that are really slick. And on the higher end: Office of Angela Scott. One day I will splurge on these!
