How to 'hide' the chain strap of classic flap so it can be carried as a handheld bag?

I have a medium classic flap in black. I've seen some people 'hide' the chain strap in their classic flaps and carry the bags in hand. Could any of you kindly let me know how to do so?

the only way I can think of at the moment is to pull the chain (from the inside) all the way in on one side and then knot it so that it doesnt slip out. does that make sense?
