I have a sterling silver neclace with pearls strung on silver wire. The silver has tarnished and I am wondering if there is a way to clean/polish the silver withough damging the pearls?

I looked up Sunshine polishing cloth on google and it says they have a special chemical in the cloth. Does the Sunshine cloth work better than a regular polishing cloth? The ones I have are David Yurman and I'm not sure if they have any cleaner in them.

The problem is that the DY cleaning cloths are not taking off the tarnish from the wire used for stringing the pearls.

Hmmmmmmmm...I've only ever tried the Connoisseur polishing cloths for gold and silver but find it too troublesome because you need to polish with one side and then switch to other.

Sunshine cloths are easier because you just polish the silver and it's done. I've been using it with my sterling necklaces and it cleans with only a bit of polishing, doesn't need much rubbing on my part.

According to the Pearl Guide, sunshine cloth may be used with care to remove light scratches on pearls with thickish nacre. But I think you should rinse off your pearls to remove the chemicals if it touches your pearls.

Is it Tiffany? If it is you should have them service the piece for you. They'll clean it with care and replace it altogether if they actually damage a pearl. If it's not, take it to a jewelry shop that will service silver and hope for the best. You may be over your head on this one. I know I would be!

It's not Tiffany, it's David Yurman so I can get away with having the tarnish due to the overall design but just wanted certain parts (specifically the SS wire the pearls are strung on) to be shinier. I think I can live with it though or DY can probably service it as well.
