I purchased a Evelyne 33 in beton clemence a couple of months ago and I’ve only used it like 3 times. I’m slowly realizing that this might be an impulse buy even though I love the bag and the color. I’m having extreme anxiety with the light color. I don’t wear jeans so I don’t have to worry about color transfer but I’m scared that sun exposure will change the color. I’ve been only taking it out during cloudy non rainy days. I’ve tried to do some research but for some reason I’m not finding a lot of wear and tear or care threads regarding lighter colors. Do you guys have tips on how to handle these gorgeous lighter colors? I have a sense that I’m over thinking it but I really want to preserve the gorgeous off white. I don’t want it to become like dirty yellow. TIA

I think the best way to preserve light color bags is to do a proper wipe down every time after you take it out, or at least after 2-3 times of use. I did so with my bag in sauge swift, and I basically live in denim on weekends. Its holding up quite well after 1.5yr of extensive use. I even took it on a 10-day trip to Europe, and it was the only small/medium bag i brought with me.... So just enjoy your georgeous beton bag!

Do you have a photo of the type of wear you're seeing or might me concerned about? I buy mostly clemence these days, in part, because I have so much confidence in the leather's ability to withstand the elements and reasonable wear. I routinely get them wet, have spilled olive oil, other minor issues. Do you have any leather care products on hand at home, in case of an issue?

Good to know that a good old wiping down should do the trick do you use a wet cloth first then conditioner? Or just a simple wipe down?

I do have apple leather lotion. Here are some pictures of the yellowing that I’m scared about.

PS: the birkin is not my bag. It belongs to a fellow TPFer when I googled.

I'm almost wondering if the handle yellowing was caused by a twillies or something. No one is holding their bag that far down towards the bag and it seems pretty evenly yellowed.

I haven't used the apple since my Balenciaga days, but I have successfully used the Lexol leather wipes, pH balanced formula, on Clemence, Swift, Evercolor and Togo. I lightly brush any blemish with a wipe and clear the residue with a jewelry cloth. I suggest doing a test area or work with a vintage bag first. Can you talk to your SA about your concerns and how to care for your bags? Is there a leather specialist in your local or regional store who you can call or visit?

Also, I've read that some of the applecare products can cause yellowing in quite a few threads.. You know I just realized I'm in this forum, so sorry to jump in, just noticed your post under 'recent posts'. I am sure the ladies here have much better advise than I do!! Sorry!!!

I’m going to look into the Lexol wipes. Do you use that to wipe every single time you use the bag? I will bring it up to her. She’s somewhat new so I’m not how knowledgeable she is (she’s amazing though and I love working with her). The Hermes store is a couple minutes from where I live so stop by from time to time. I’m gonna go in and ask. Thanks

I am very glad you posted because I have high anxiety over light colors too, even though I really love them. I want a Berline in a light color but am scared. I also do not wear jeans or dark pants but color transfer can happen from a dark jacket, shorts, skirts, or dresses or other clothing items, not just jeans. The sun lightening occurs after much prolonged storage/exposure in the sun, it will not happen to a bag after a day or even two. Lighter colors yellow with TIME, so if you just bought the bag it will not yellow for many many years. The color transfer and dirt are the issues I would worry over more because those can happen immediately. I would just use the bag and enjoy it as much as you feel comfortable.

I don't clean my bags with each use, only when I notice a mark or blemish. For example, I used one on Friday after an air passenger spilled his clear drink on my glycine K. It was hours before I was able to properly inspect and wipe the bag but it was 100% fine. Beton has grey hues, creamy dimension, and will wear nicely over time, I think. Maybe avoid bright white until you feel more sure of your command of the leather.
