How to buy a Birkin? I heard there's a waiting list?

Hi Hermes experts, I'm ready for a Birkin! But I heard that there's a waiting list. Is there a waiting list for just ANY birkin bag? Or if there's a waiting list only if you want a particular bag just for you? Please help me. How do I get one?

I was just told by an SA on the phone that there are no waitlists. What you see in the store is what you get. He said that if you want a specific color you literally have to keep going to the store until you see one that you like.

Not sure how it really works, but this is what I was just told by an SA in BH.

Hi,

my mom was told last year by a SA in Zürich that the list for Bitking was closed and will be opend in about 6month but if she likes to she can put my mom on the kelly-list and she would only have to wait for the bag for about 3 months. my mom doesn't like the kelly, so she left the store without being on a list. So yes, there is a list!
But in Stuttgart very nice SA told me, the lists are not that long anymore, so you don't have to wait for "ages". . .
