Hi all!

I've complained before about a diamond bracelet I bought last December. The diamonds are fabulous, but the setting is utterly horrid. The jewelry store I bought it from won't do anything but treat the piece as a scrap piece towards another item (with a little more value). Does anyone have any idea or resources for me to read to know how to price this reset at a different jeweler? ImageUploadedByPurseForum1416878897.504025.jpg I would want it resized a couple of millimeters and the clasping mechanism changed if possible. Thanks!

It depends upon where you are. For example, my jeweler will take in scrap, but if I am going to have it remade into a piece, they offer an additional percentage of the scrap towards the new piece.

At least find a jeweler who will do that!

I agree with Saligator. I had a pendant made and the stone was taken out of a ring. My jeweler gave me the cost for gold content and took this off the price. The gold is worth something and they should definitely give this off the price caluclated on the spot price of gold per ounce.

From my own experience with a diamond bracelet that needs a labor intensive repair, you might be better off trading it in as a whole piece or selling it on your own and starting over. Are you attached to the diamonds? A new bracelet altogether may be less stressful and costly than redoing this one. I perfectly understand your frustration! I think the best way to gauge the cost would be to get estimates from more than one jeweler.

Not attached to the bracelet, I was hoping I would save more money if I kept the stones. I will start pricing it out at different jewelers and see how it goes, so frustrating!!
