So my cousin is buying a stone and wants to know what a fair price would be.

These are the only specs she has. I know it's not a lot to go on but what do you ladies think would be fair?

DIAMOND INFORMATION

  • Number of Diamonds: 1
  • Shape: Round
  • Total Carat Weight: 1.00 ct. tw.
  • Color: G-H
  • Clarity: VS2
  • Cut: Excellent

I would suggest looking up a few on-line retailers eg Blue Nile and checking what they are selling similar stones for.

if it's GIA certification, I'd say probably somewhere around $8000 USD, probably a little higher than that.

if it isn't GIA certification, then it should be less than that, but I only really trust GIA..

I guess she has the option of buying it if they allow returns and having it independently certified right?

yes, if they allow returns that is definitely an option! however, just be careful with the return policies, depending on how long it can take for independent certification and make sure she will have enough time to return after having it certified, etc, etc.
