Hi Ladies,

I am about to buy a 1998 black alligator kelly. It is in pristine conditon. Can you tell me what you think its value is. I don't want to over pay. Since it is alligator instead of porous crocodile, I am assuming it should be a lot less. How much are these going for in the boutiques. Any advice would be helpful

Thank you

A 1998 alligator (not crocodile) kelly shouldn't be very expensive. You can get a 32cm vintage or reasonably well-used porosus or niloticus crocodile kelly for around 9k to 14-ish k. So a 1998 28 centimeter Kelly IF it didn't have any cracking or damage at all should fall somewhere in there on the lower end. It's what you're comfortable with spending in the end. If you buy vintage/pre-owned and then you find you don't want to keep it, sometimes it is hard to get your money out of it.

(if it does have cracking, steer clear. That can never be fixed, says H.) Do you have any pics of it? Be sure it's authentic, too. You can't be too careful.

Ok, maybe my post fill fit this thread better... So my "problem" is that I found a 28cm Alligator kelly for around $8.000. However it says: There are scuffs on all 4 corners. A new waxing of the edges is recommended. The bag is shiny alligator but needs a rebuffing to bring the shine back. There are minor wearing at each end of the handle, loose stitching on the interior pocket and a semi-breakage on the clochette strap. What do you think of the price? If a nice vintage bag in good condition is worth around 9K (according to the post above), is 8K for not so good too much?? I love the fact that it's not really that shiny and would love to have one vintage H. But since I'm no expert on H exotics I also have no idea what would be a reasonable price for a bag that's not in the best possible condition...What should I do? :confused1:
Thank you in advance!

KellyH, I was stating that I thought 9k was a good price for a POROSUS crocodile kelly. Porosus crocodile skin is different than alligator. It's usually considered higher quality and it is more expensive.

You should do some research here on the board about crocodile and alligator skins and the differences, including price. There is a ton of great information available and all you need to do is a search on the forum.

Hermes can repair stitching and you can always buy a new clochette if you wanted one, but the best thing to remember in my opinion is the bag shouldn't have any cracking or dryness. That can't be fixed and it's all downhill from there. All bags get scuffed corners at some point and Hermes can touch them up a little bit but only for so long.

Best wishes!
