I guess a better way to put it - what is your breaking point? 50% off? 25% off? If a bag is normally $1550 and you can get it for $944 - (almost 61%!) - would you do it? And I'm talking about a bag you've had your eye on for a while, not just you walking by the shop window and being gobsmacked...

How much off turns you on?

Tricky question! I'm always tempted by a bargain, but these tend to be my impulse purchases - so if its 50 or 60% off and if its in a style I've admired and in a brand I love, I'd be hard put to resist. 10 or 20% wouldn't knock me off my "be sensible, you don't need another bag" perch though
However if I absolutely adore something I won't wait for the sale, I'd be too afraid to lose it, so I'll buy full price.

I think I tend to gravitate more towards actual dollar amount! Unfortunately for me - the handbags I want never go on sale so not sure how I would gauge this. But for shoes, especially when they do the Chanel sale, If they are in the $300-$450 after sale range I'm SOLD! Which I think *usually* amounts to around 50-60% off.

Depends on the brand, the availability of the bag, how much I like the bag, and the average discount for said brand. If it's limited (single digit stock in the country), I'll pay full price. Otherwise, I tend to try to get somewhere between 25-40% off Depending on my willingness to wait and frequency of sales.

Excellent responses. I've been hunting a particular bag for a (very short) while, and found a coupon code for it at a reputable retailer, and - I actually had to spend most of the day thinking about until I realized I'd be an idiot not to take advantage of such a discount (60%). The bag I wanted doesn't go on sale, and I wasn't willing to do the resale market. Happy me, unhappy credit card.

I try never to buy full price. I've done that once with a Prada bag I just "knew" was perfect...and it wasn't. So I lost 30% in selling. :annoyed: Never again.

I tend to buy preowned (new or like new condition). I generally won't buy a bag unless I can't get it for at least 40% off.

But it depends on the brand. For Chanel I've had to do with smaller discounts of 10-20% ish because they just aren't available new / like new with a significant discount. I don't worry because they will hold much or all of their value.

But some brands are available to me at great discount so I'm patient and hunt. Gucci has fairly regular sales so I tend to buy them for 40-50% off. My other favorite brand, Dior, doesn't hold its value all that well (except for certain special editions) so I can take advantage of that by waiting to get those and usually snag a bag for 40+% off.

But a sale never makes me buy a bag. I decide the bag I want first then try to figure out the cheapest possible way to acquire it.

Unless we're talking about clothes, I hardly ever get to buy things on sale. I really wish it was a luxury that I had access to!
Being a Canadian and really into Louis Vuitton at the moment, I've compared the prices to brand new in store to "like new condition" and there's usually only a difference between $20-60, sometimes being more expensive than brand new. That being said, I'm not okay with putting myself into debt because there's something pretty that I want. I work really hard to make sure that I have the money in savings and will work towards a goal of a year or even more away, that way I can assure that I still have a decent amount in my savings account.

No kidding. I've been considering buying preloved LV but can't justify the prices. Unless it's some kind of limited edition model I can't understand how it can be more expensive than a new one from the store. A mono neverfull mm shouldn't appreciate in value... unless it's lined with drugs or something. I don't get it.

Edit: ignoring price increases by LV, inflation, etc.

I guess it depends how much I like it and how overpriced it was to begin with?

Last bag I bought, I paid full price for, as I really wanted it and felt it was only slightly overpriced for what it was.
