I have steered off Chanel's costume jewellery for a while, my last purchase was 2020? I find the price is atrocious and have been turning to fine jewellery but I keep thinking about this Chanel earring.. in fact i cant seem to fancy any fine jewellery's earrings .. am i outta my mind??

What are your thoughts and will you still buy chanel costume jewellery at today's price?

I have a decent collection of costume jewelry & I use them all (especially when I travel since I don’t want to take fine jewelry with me). I also wear fine jewelry a lot, but in general I am particular with what I buy & try not to buy pieces that I can’t get use out of over the next 10 yrs or so. If you love those cc studs & wear them often, get them (they are pretty)and if a stone falls out Chanel will replace them (I had to take my studs in once over 3 yrs of use).

I bought the classic pearl necklace recently and love it! Is it worth the nearly $900? That's subjective because even fine jewelry you get from luxury brands have super steep mark up anyway. I figured when not wearing as a necklace I can also use it as a bag charm or hook it to a short pearl strap to wear as a belt to optimize cost per wear. If it's something you like and can see yourself reaching for them regularly then go for it. One can raise the same question on whether or not dropping over $10k on a CF is worth it, it's all relevant to how frequent you would use it and if that bag brings you joy.

Chanel does offer after service on costume jewelry too. One time I dropped off the earrings for repair as a few rhinestones fell off, was told by the SA that they'll send it to Paris for the repair. I did waited for two months and then was told that they lost my earrings in transit. However, the SA spoke with the SM and offered me a brand new pair as replacement.

I am so torn, amd i totally understand perspectives from both sides of the coin..

I will definitely get quite a lot of use over the next 2 years but i am not sure if i will love it as much after or esp after 10 yrs for sure.. the star design makes it abit youthful so its not a classic, or is it..?

Thanks ladies !

Also, like @waterlily112 says, luxury fine earrings have even higher markups.. and knowing how fickle i am, i hesitate to shell out 5 or 6 times that amount just on a pair of 18k gold with stone earrings..

Terrible.

Don't waste your money. Buy vintage Chanel or by something other than Chanel.
A lot of vintage chanel is even more expensive and not worth it im my opinion for the mark ups for old tarnished jewellery although the quality was better back then
Imo, it isn't worth it. I would stick to fine jewelry and at least there is after service repairs done if anything goes wrong with your item. At least with fine jewelry, you know what you are wearing is gold, precious stones, diamonds, etc.
why do you have to be wearing gold precious stones etc?

I say if you like it go for it, I always loved costume jewellery from 10 years ago when it was a lot cheaper. I bought 4 pairs of earrings during lockdown last year in London but prices have increased a bit since then. If its a piece you can wear and enjoy like the classic cc studs you can enjoy them without having to worry about them like fine jewellery.

Jewelry is the one area I lean very practical largely because of my sensitivity. A lot of jewelry itches so I stay away from costume jewelry for this reason and buy everything from Etsy. If itchiness is not a factor, just buy what you like. I do think the mark up is steep considering what you're getting and there are specialized jewelry brands where you can get your money's worth.

@sassification with the particular style/design you're interested, my only concern is that the rhinestones are on the bigger side. If one falls off it'll look quite obvious. May not be a big issue if you can catch it right when it falls so you can glue it back on yourself. But if the rhinestone is missing and you can't find it, with Chanel you don't really know the turnaround time for the repair, it can be weeks or months. The replacement pair I got haven't had any issue with rhinestones falling off though, they're over 4 year old now and still in excellent condition imo (no tarnishing, no turning my ears green, no paint chipping off). Whereas the pair I sent in for repair had the rhinestone issue after 3-4 months of owning them, so YMMV.
